This was my grandfathers, Must be from 50 s or older? sadly, I live in cocoa beach near ocean where salt is in the air, one of the most corrosive environments in the world so its not doing good since it moved down from NY. are these collectible?
really? cool.... maybe it's from the 60's? just curious. everything round here is plastic, but for good reason.
ZIP codes weren't used until 1963 and I believe it was probably in the 80s that metric system values (liters) appeared on USA products.
I've got a 1949 "Esso" oil can. It has been crappy painted once. I plan to strip the paint of it oneday and try to restore it if I can find out what the original colors where.
i got this lovely thing at a garage sale for a quarter..i opened it up and looked inside..the inside was still brand-spankin new! the original $2.99 price tag was still on it..i thought it was cool and i was lookin for a different can to replace the plastic one i'd been using creepy
Here is mine. I believe they came from the 20s. This one seems to be meant to be bolted down. It has provisions for a pad lock. Some sets simply clamped onto the running boards for those cross country trips when the next service station was an unknown distance away. Actually it's 3 cans in one. Gas, oil and water. Red, silver and blue. I'm guessing the red one is gasolene. I always remember the highly decorated lacquer thinner cans surrounded with angel hair in all the custom cars show displays of the early 60s. I thought these would be cool for a 40s era car.
i've got that gas can zip-tied to the handle on my cooler and a basket zip-tied to a bracket in the trunk that's holding old antifreeze jugs for my oil, water, trans and brake fluids.looks cool cept i need to repaint the jugs and have them striped or put stickers on em to identify what they are better! creepy
Esso was Standard Oil of New Jersey so the colors would be red, white and blue. The can has to be red for gasoline, and here's the emblem color and style. Mutt
I was just wondering how much trouble I'd be in if I posted up a photo of a vintage can of Grandma Brown's Baked Beans...
Thanks Mutt. I guess the logo hardly changed in the years then. We've got a couple of Esso gasstations around here. The can I have is an open type vented can, which I think could be used for oil, not gasoline. I'll take a picture of it and post it here.
