I got a 1971 ford torino 500 with a 302 for free. it just had a bad timing gear, was a a little beat up and was painted multicolor with spray paint and primer. I spent about 200 mostly on used parts to put on it and it was a good running car. It belonged to a friend of mine's brother and their parents wanted it out of the yard. They also offered a chevy luv truck but it was torn in pieces so i turned it down.
I bought a '40 Ford rolling chassis for $150. The seller was going to put the sedan body on an S-10 chassis. I asked if he was going to use the dash. Nope, you can have it. Deluxe dash with glove box, speaker grille and delete plate. The wife later asked me why I had that dash in the spare room. Later we when to swap and saw one for sale for $750. She said I could keep anything I wanted in the house.
I get a shitload of free time at work every day so I can spend too much time here on the HAMB. got 2 free 1967 Sunbeam Alpines. sold the removeable hardtop from one for $1375.00 and the parts car for $700.00. then I sold the one that ran for $2000.00. these were lein sales... guy gave me about $2500.00 for bodywork on the one, then disappeared off the planet.
....got a crunched 67 Lincoln 2 door for free,,, sold it for $400.00 to a guy who put it in the destruction derby.
cant show ya any thing yet but i got the final piece of the beltline trim needed for my 51 belair!!! thanks to shortdog!!
Found this Y-Block Fenton intake, 97's, and fuel log on the ground at a steel and salvage yard. Hadn't been there long. The strombergs were perfect except one of the tops. Not bad for free.
This dude gave this to me for helping him out. I've had it for about 25 years!!! Been looking for something to put it in>>>>.
I got a '50 Studebaker coupe for free from a cousin..... I felt bad and sold it for her and gave her the money.... Kinda wish I had it now but she needed it more.
craigslist rocks! check out my webshots, the 54' chevy cabover was free on craigslist last month and it runs. last week a guy gave me a 48 ford truck. going to put the free 302 i got in it,even had crome valve cover and aluminum intake.
just picked up a complete pontiac 400, 4barrel, 4 bolt mains(complete except carb) for $50!!...cheap to me
I got a 57 283 given to me once. It had Vette heads on it. It turns out it was punched 60 over, run in a boat for a while and was pretty thrashed. I ended up selling the heads for $500.
A nice guy in Edmonton Doug Coble gave me a flathead offy dual intake with carbs and a thickstun air cleaner. Thanks Doug
I needed a horn relay for a '53 Plymouth. $65 from a restoration house. Advertised on the HAMB wanted board. WBRW32 just went ahead and sent me one. Wouldn't take a dime for the part or the shipping. He did tell me a car of his got some ink in the spring 1967 issue of 1001 rod and custom ideas magazine, and he lost his copy. I think it would be good karma if I could find one for him, so far I haven't been able to. CHAZ </IMG>
I been needing a lawn mower for a while and kept picking up junkers and spending more time fixin then mowing (Which really cuts into shop time) Father in law let me use his new one a kubota ZD 28. 2 weeks later he drops it off and says "just keep it" Turns out he bought 2 and was waiting for the other one to arrive. DAMN! Not as cool as a rusty A but I aint complainin!
The last freebie was a rebuilt 235 and a powerglide. Low miles and NEW generator, starter, and carb. Wait til you see the next freebie (gotta wait for it to dry up here).
a heavy 32 axle with reversed eyed spring, 57 vette rear end with posie from the same friend who said "get this shit out of here or it is going to the scape guy!"
Another good score was this BBC 396. The guy my dad bought his house from said it was a 460 Ford and he'd haul it off if Pops didn't want it. When we pulled the tarp off, we both knew it was a blig block. Here's a post overhaul pic from 1992. If everything comes together as planned, it'll be the motivation for my Dragmaster dart. An Enderle mechanical injection will replace the Holley in this pic.
Best of all time for me was this 14,000 original mile '70 Buick Wildcat 455 for free. Well, there was tolls and gas to Tulsa and back.... Literally a little old lady's car that only drove when she volunteered at the hospital.
