Yes, some of the big shows are $45 + mainly because they draw the hobbiest that brings his car and sits by it all day.

So if someone takes the risk of putting on a show and it happens to rain that day and nobody shows up is it tough shit for him or would all of you people kick in extra money to help the promoter out???? I doubt it... even if he was going to donate the profits. If you don't want to pay for a show stop whineing and promote your own show, take all the risks, deal with all the problems then donate all your profits....Some of you guys sound like the government telling people what they should do. There are more important things to get mad about. My sisters stepson got killed in Afghanistan a few months ago.. Complain about our kids getting killed in foreign countries to protect you instead of complaining about a stupid $20.00 car show entry fee!!!!!

its a joke what some people expect you to pay to take YOUR car that YOU invested money and hard work in just so they make a profit. Fair enough about insurances and the like, but some organisers just take the piss.

I'm sure if sponsors could levy the fees to offset the entrants, alot of high quality hot rods and not trailer queens would attend. A win win for everyone. Oh hang on, wait a minute, its not an ideal world is it...

Around here car shows are $35.00-$40.00. I started circle track racing again, because I can get into the pits for $50.00, and at least get my money back in the main event, plus it is alot more fun.

Damn... There is only one real rod and custom show in South Aus. every year, and that is 20 cars big.

$3 swap meets once every second month are neat though!

Everything is starting to cost. We pay 9.75% sales tax on just about everything except groceries, cable bill (with no premium channels) is up to $62.00/mo., supermarkets have jacked the prices across the board, etc., etc. Disneyland just announced that their adult, 1-day pass will cost you $80 (just to get on the grounds plus $15 to park) and it only will get you into one of the parks, not both.

What hasn't gone up? ...my income comes to mind. I just have to be more selective in my vices, I guess. Fortunately, there are some great shows in Los Angeles that are worth the price (GNRS & LARS) and I'm not too concerned if I miss the rest.

You either nut up and pay 20 bucks or more and have a good time around people of like minded interest or dont.

  10. If you think it hurts the participants wallets, try vending at a NSRA or Good guys show were it costs 500-1500 per spot just to set up even in this weak economy.

Unfortunately, it's a sign of the times.
    But consider this.
Some shows have to rent a location, buy insurance, dash plaques, awards, advertising, flyers, DJ for music. Many municipalities charge a fee for an "event permit" Lockport NY for example charges $50 to have a cruise or show. Then you may have to pay ASCAP or BMI if you are playing music.

And sponsorships are dwindling all the time.

I help run a few events to benefit local fire companies.
And food sales are where the money is.
Chicken BBQ sales turn it into a profit maker.
Fire Companies have ever escalating costs, and sources of funds are constantly drying up.
A car show can make a little bit, but sometimes its more work than its worth.

For years a guy I know worked with the schools DECA club to put on a show.
When they finally gave it up they found they made more money wrapping christmas presents during Dec. in a storefront in a plaza.

For those running the shows, it is a thankless task, as you always piss off someone.
Someone feels they weren't judged fairly, or the classes are wrong, or one thing or another.

Many hate the fact they compete against a car trailered in, while they drove. The promotor can't afford 100 different classes for a show that draws 200 cars. But sometimes that's what people want because their class was too big.

Yep, cruise nights are free(mostly), but think about the guys putting in the time and effort to run a show, the little guys, not the multi day event, but the small shows that draw 100 cars or under.

I've gone to a lot of shows . I don't recall ever seeing someone having their " arm twisted " to pay the entry or admission fee. If you don't like it , DON'T GO . It should be that simple.

I will drop $20 at a bar on cheap beer on any given Saturday night and not think twice about it. I'll eat and crap out an $18 steak in 24 hours... I'll pay $30 for a 3 minute lap dance... $20 to help the local car show scene and hot rodding in general is a small price to pay. Those things aren't exactly free to put on, and it beats sitting at home...

    You guys are funny...

Most of us are willing to pay $40 or more for a good show. But a parking lot show should not cost $20. The gold chainers have hijacked my thread. I'm talking about a no frills parking lot show for $20 no fuc## way.

our car club, the greenwood knights, puts on the annual greenwood car show in north seattle. june 25th. it's a mile and a 1/2 long. costs around $25K to put on.. $5500 for barricades alone. garbage, recycle, insurance, permits, posters, porta-potties, stage equipment rental, T-shirts and printing them, dash plaques, trophys, etc, etc make up the rest. none of us draw a dime from the show. the bands even play for free. people don't seem to mind the $25 entry fee, because it benefits the local food bank and senior center. most people bring canned food too. come on down if you're in the area. saturday, june 25th, www.greenwoodcarshow.com

anyone complaining about car show fees has never put on an event or priced out doing one, you'd be lucky to make minimum wage for the endless time invested in a car show that went perfect

I hold two car shows per year at my dealership. Our shows have been 100% free for 11 years. Each participant walks away with a free t-shirt, a dash plaque and for some, a trophy. Then you get one idiot that says "How come no goodie bags?" Go figure. When all is said and done each show costs between $3,000-$4,000, but it's money well spent. The car community supports our dealership and our efforts and those who don't buy a car from us still refer their friends. I figure that's a win-win!

Thanks blktie for supporting our community!
Have come to the conclusion of not driving my cars to shows that I have to pay to participate in. My reasoning: why should i pay for someone else's show? If it weren't for the show cars there would be no show!

i have been away from the cars and car shows for a lot of years got involved in antique tractors. tractor shows do not charge to bring a tractor to a show if they did they would not have a show. so in 2009 i decided to try get a car show going here in town of Lacon,IL. we do not charge for the cars or spectators to come in. we had dash plaqes and alot of door prizes. there are other ways to make your money to pay for a show food, swapmeet venders, raffles, we also use the citys park free and we fall under there insurance. my 2 cents

A close friend of mine's wife is a teacher at a local Christian school near Baltimore. They are having a father's day show so i thought I would go and support the school. it turns out that it is $25 to get you car into the show........OK.....supports the school...........I read a little more and find that the cars have to be in the lot by 9 AM........gates close at 9:01 and you can't leave until the very end after all prizes are awarded....around 5 PM.............totally stupid planning........they lost my support

For over 30 years our club has put on a show. Free food and soda. We rent the property. we have insurance, all for a donation we don't rape anyone. and we give the Bridge Center $ 4,500 to $5,000 each year.

a 30 year show is something to be proud of for sure and having a club that donates all the time and money to put something like that on it really cool.

most small shows will happen once or twice is they are lucky, now do you think it's because after collecting the $20 on the 150 cars (if your lucky) they retire or is it possible that even after the fees with the cost and time invested it's not worth it.

i've looked into doing events over the years and do put on some music events now and then, honestly after crunching the numbers on car shows it always is just so risky I avoid it. I don't want to make money but you almost need things to go perfect to even come close to breaking even. people complain about paying $20 but think nothing about you losing $5000 and countless hours organizing

it's a school, they are required to provide a parking attendant if cars are coming in and out for liability reasons, offer to donate your time to be the attendant to allow cars to come in and out?

I put on the Southeastern Truck Nationals here outside of Nashville, TN. I charge $20 for the day, but all of the registration fees go to supporting the Police and Fire Explorers here locally. Those are the kids that want to go into public safety when they grow up.

This is my second year and I am able to run the show completely off sponsor fees from the trophies, to music, to insurance, etc.

I don't typically take my blazer to too many shows unless it's a BIG one, like Goodguys, Power Tour, etc. I'm trying to make my show more of a gathering of trucks and their owners. We do specialty home made trophies and Top 25. I don't care for the trophy hunters.

8 pages of bitching about nothing.

I liked the HAMB better when it was about cool cars.
