    just announced

    https://www.sickthemagazine.com/sick-66

put on by the same folks who did Death Week last month. That one was a fun adventure! this one will be closer to home for a lot of folks. And they already announced that it's 1/8th mile racing, and normal street tires are allowed. I'm thinking Joel might show up, and I'm thinking about taking my Corvette for a little Route 66 tv show adventure.

Plenty of time to get your ducks in a row, but get your car working a couple months ahead of time, and go on some drives with it, just to be sure.

There were several Canadians on Death Week, who drove their cars down and went pretty fast, too.

  4. My junk would be slow…but they are pretty reliable

Can you go on it but not race? My F100 isn't exactly a drag car.

Look into the "sick ward" thing, maybe so? There were a few cars along on Death Week that didn't race.

Did the "Expression of Interest. Always wanted to do Route 66, this would be a great way to do it.

  12. Sick week and stuff looks fun but if this trip is anything like death week it appeals more to me for the laid back feeling, none of my stuff is remotely fast.

  13. I "bookmarked" this, good excuse to take trip west, watch some fun drags, and then go visit my son, his wife and the little grand-daughter.

I did the expression of interest form for Sick 66. It would be a really fun event. But I greatly prefer 1/4 mile racing to half-a-track racing. Death Week was so well run, the organizers really know what they are doing. But having only 70ish cars was a big factor as well. I'm on the wait list for Sick Week in Florida, bringing the Hemi Coupe hot rod. Definitely planning on Drag Week this year. Squirrel, are you going to Sick Week?

  15. Hemi Joel, hope you are in for Sick Week.:) Would love to see your coupe in this event. I hope to do Sick Week in the future as well. It is one of the best drive and drag events IMO.;)

  16. Its time for a little more OLD SCHOOL flavor in these events.

I'm planning to do Sick 66 in my Corvette. It's still a ways off.

The tracks have been announced, 6 days of 1/8 mile racing.

I live 25 miles from one of the tracks on the list, so yeah. I imagine several local friends will be attending the festivities.

I also sent in an Expression of Interest form. Are there safety rules if you want to race? Do you have to race?

Those who want to come with and experience the whole thing without racing enter the "Sick Ward".

    From the website:
"Sick Ward is for those who want the VIP treatment with the Sick Week cruise experience. This entry is for the driver and one passenger and includes daily admission to each track, Sick Ward gifts, pit parking, and hospitality opportunities. You'll park in our Sick Ward section of the pits and get to follow the week, just the same as the racers - only without the racing part! We will have hospitality set up at various parts of the week, bonus prizes and more. Additional Sick Ward passengers can be purchased."

But the entry fee for sick ward is almost as much as racing, so WHy not make some passes?

  23. As @Hemi Joel said why not make passes? I’m almost ashamed I’ve never made a pass down a drag strip. If I make it there I’ll be happy to make an ass of myself in a slow manner in front of ALOT of people!

Everybody has to start somewhere. Watch the starting line for a while and you'll learn most of it. Everybody is helpful, especially if you tell them you're new and ask for guidance. The ones who are open to ridicule are the guys who pretend they know it all when they don't then they learn the hard way.

Hmm…I may try to catch this in Tulsa since that is close. Maybe someday I’ll put something together that I can race again. Or, maybe I will have my Chevelle back before then even though it is OT for here. :D

Give it a go. The only one you have to impress is yourself. I didn't start dragracing till I was 54y.o.. I was in my avatar at Sydney Dragway at a test 'n' tune with a bunch of very hard hitters doing testing. My first run was a solo. The lights came down, I stepped off the clutch and proceeded to chug my way down the track. My first run was 20 and a bit seconds 1/4 mile. I had towed to the track during a rain downpour and hadn't thought about the air filters being full of rainwater. By the end of the day I had it down to 16s and was as happy as a pig in shit.
    Be warned, you'll get hooked.

I participated in a Rocky Mountain Race Week event a couple of years ago. It was a blast but it was a tough week for an old guy. If I was younger, I would be all over these events. I plan to be a spectator for this event.

The Sydney Dragway guys manage first-timers pretty well. Windscreen gets marked with "FT", and the starter keeps an eye out. Everyone makes the odd mistake. For my first run I deep-staged so far I damn near set off the the 60' timer . They smiled, backed me up and off we went.

Spanners is right though... once you start it's more addictive than crack.

  29. Oh I’m not worried about embarrassing myself, I’m practically an expert at it by this point! I can laugh at myself with the best of them!

  30. The main thing is to get out there and try it. Learn, improve, but most of all have fun. I have met some of the greatest people I have ever known drag racing. And yea, as stated, you may just get hooked. It is addictive.:);)
