Best Advice ...EVER! All you young, invincible guys.. read these posts carefully. The human body is a whole lot easier to wreck and harder to repair than a rusty, crunched up old car.
No where near the top but 3 fractures to left foot. Funny thing is you wont believe the stuff Ive done to cars form a wheel chair. Best garage tool EVER. Im not old but mid 30s Hope you all get better soon. I dont want to I get more done hurt.
I think the above sums it right up. Part of honoring tradition is learning from us old guy's mistakes.
Actually I think tradition for this thread is no kids ever listen to their elders on safety. Heck who here even listened to the good words of our parents. I know I didnt. And still dont.
Man that irks me, Oz treats their vets like that? I guess we could have it that way here if the wrong person gets elected. Operative word is 'person' not so much man. I got to spend some good quality time with Aussies while in the desert in 01 and 04, awesome guys. Saddens me that you have endured so much and get so little. As for me, I wrecked my knee working like a 20 year old when I was 33, then my unit decided I needed to work harder since I was already messed up. Now both are done in, both my meniscus looks like a semi ran over them. So the back is great, proper lifting techniques save the back but wreak havoc on the knees. Lucky for me, and plenty of other desert vets, our VA is only slow, not imbecile and troublesome. The knees put me out of AD, but it was all the other stuff I have been dealing with since the first foray to the desert in 90-91 that got me decent compensation. I wont go into the list, because it pales in comparison to most of you guys. I shudder to think of where I would be now if I wasnt a veteran and all my problems were from civilian work. I hope Australia pulls their heads out of their rectums and they give you what you are due for serving. I hope our new regime doesnt start to do the same to us to save money. All the guys with busted up backs and heart problems, get well soon and take it easier.
I'm too much of a southern blood pussy to man up and work in my unheated garage until it's at least 40 degrees outside. Oh yeah, money is a little tight right now too. Heating oil prices, ya know.
Shot myself in the hand with a nail gun at work a while back. Something about wiring the safety back for rapid fire that OSHA doesn't find funny. Makes me feel lucky from the sound of some of you guys. Oh, by the way, Vets rule. Hands down, and hats off to those who can serve. They turned me away cause of a torn rotator cuff pre 9-11.
I can't take credit for them, as bad ass as they are, they came with the '27 Dodge, which I've decidied to go with, instead of the '30 ford coupe in my avatar. We need to start the Handicapped HAMB'ers club Got the results of my M.R.I. L-5 _ S-1 disk bulge has increased dramiticaly, Facet joints are toast. L-4 _ L-5 disk bulge has increased 2 mm, Facet joints are toast. On Mon., I get another epidural to try to make me more comfortable, . . . . so I can enjoy the 10 day, 40th B-day bash my loving, supporting wife has planned (for 6 months behind my back) for me, IN VEGAS!!!! Going to the Nascar race, and the rest is a surprise to me So if you see a guy having WAY too much fun in a wheelchair in the casinos, come say hi I see the doctor the day after I return from LV to discuss surgical options. My car is going to have to be built without me, sorta. In the past couple of years, I've been spending my good days at Bear metal Kustoms. I do machinist jobs that come in, help out where I can, and try to learn as much as possible while I'm there. I've become good friends with Jason, he's a stand-up guy thats got his head on square and is always willing to help. We were going to build this car in his shop, me doing the work, under his supervision (safety, my 1st build) and occasional help. Well, with my back taking a shit on me, Jasons agreed to take on the build, and he's gonna get himself a little '29 RPU for his trouble After some wheeling and dealin with 3 cars involved, my Dodge sedan will be an unfinished driver, so hopefully by the time I can drive again I'll get to finish it So THANK YOU, JASON You've givin me reason to look forward too.
Congrats dude, hope you enjoy your party, you deserve it. Thumbs up to Jason, that is awesome........................ Say, you mind if I send over my A-40?
Do you have a right hand drive RPU to trade??? It's no big deal really.. We are going to build elcornus' car in between other jobs..I am using it as filler when my guys and me have some time waiting on parts and such. Eric has been a big help in the machining area of the shop..I am sure he will post updates of his car as he can.. I plan on emailing him frequent pics even though he only lives about 8 blocks from the shop....Jason
It is too a big deal, FOR ME. Your helping me out in more ways than I can relay on a computer Your a good guy, stop trying to hide it, ya jerk While I recover from surgery, I'll have tons of laptop time, so there will be a full build thread. Actually, it's 7 blocks, up-hill, both ways, in the snow, with no shoes on at least thats how it'll feel trying to go there in a body cast Maybe I could get a motorized hospital bed and cruise it around the shop Nevermind ^ you guys would probably roll me out the back door and down into the bay
Elcornus I feel your pain. Similar situation here. I did all the injections, procedures and meds too. Just had my third back surgery (Oct 11th) to remove the hardware (pic) from two previous fusions (L4-L5, L5-S1), trying to relieve some pain. It worked, kinda. Got off the meds but still hurts like hell, 24/7. I met you and Jason at the only show I made it to last year (Paso). Good luck and kudos to Jason. Lance
Open heart surgery when I was 48. Shattered foot. handful of broken bones. 62 years of I'll never get old so why worry, now look what happened. First social security check came yesterday. I guess I'm not the only one that really would have taken better care if we'd have known.
Me too College roommate's cousin gave me TB -- Army caught it before it got sympotamic but I had to take pills for 18 months. Messed up my uric acid which gave me gout. You know gout -- the guy in colonial times that had a foot proped up and wrapped in bandages. Take my word for it -- that's to keep big toe from feeling like someone was driving a rusty nail through joint. Ain't fun. Wish I had taken better care of myself when I was young and bulletproof!
Thats one thing Im glad I will miss, heart surgery. I know because everyone keeps telling me Im heartless! Hey! I get gout in my left foot, from being de-hydrated so often on operations/exercises and my accident messed up some body functions. I get it in an odd way though, its like a toe-less sock of pain that stops at my ankle! Makes me walk funny, isn't it odd that wearing a shoe can make it hurt less............. That is, except for putting it on and taking it off!! Weired.
Doc, Are you sure you're not dead and just haven't left us yet? Shit if that many things happened to me I would have croked. BOBBY FORD
Could explain why I seem able to walk through solid walls? I just lived life harder than some, motto of our SF, Always go that little bit further!
Home again ,off the sick list.....Still got minor heart probs but at least I will be up and moving in a few days and feeling a little better apart from a few stiff parts ( not the bit that matters unfortunately...pretty weird having women shave your body with no evil intent..ha ha ha ) so it's back to the grind next week . Doc,I have plenty of experience with hemis feel free to email me through the HAMB function and ask any thing you want to know. I also have a close freindship with a cool guy regarding buying a core or running 392.
Man, we suck! Seriously... imagine how much we'd accomplish with decent health! Or would we blow it and wind up broken anyway? Us humans aren't too bright sometimes. Mercmad.. great that you are doing better!!!
A few months ago I posted about a shoulder injury and that I was going for a cortisone shot in it. Happy to report the shoulder is 90% better. A week later I got a cortisone shot in my right hand to try and repair "trigger" finger. Looks like I,ll be going in for the surgery as the fuck you finger still locks closed......how am I supposed to express myself with a finger that don,t work?
Hey hey, good to see your home and on the mend mate!! You will have to catch up on the 'evil intent' later!! A good running 392?? Hmm, step to the head of my 'New best friend' line!!!! Imagine what we could all do with health?? Fill the hospitals up with newly broken hotrodders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(shaving with no evil intent.. funny) This morning the mech. instructor at the campus (where I am one of the IT instructors) said he asked his wife what she would do if he cheated on her. She said, "I'd cut your pecker off". He said, "No, seriously, what would you do"? She said, "What part of 'I'd cut your pecker off' don't you understand"? It was funny the way he told it.
fuck! i guess my sleep apnea ain't shit compared to this bunch of aches and pains. it's geting better now as i used to stop breathing for and average of 3.5 minutes and my oxygen level dropped to 16% from a normal 94% that most people have. no stroke or heart attack but gained 150#s. just started to be able to walk with no pain 6 months ago after 2+ years. you guys really make me feel lucky!
DUDE, I have that exact set-up in me right now!!!! Had it done on May 19th, and today is the first day I've been able to get back online. The pain I used to feel is all gone, ALL GONE!!!! Now I just gotta heal from the surgery I remember you, and that bitchin roadster of yours. Cool cat indeed. I've been away from the comp. for too long, did anyone even miss me??
Yesterday I removed so much rust from my A sedan that today I told myself that my back hurt and I needed to go fishing to recover. So I guess that just puts me in the lazy category
