Did searches here and at others and google. Can't pin down this grind. R 990 R - small block Chevy Sig Erson Cam card is MIA. This was out of one of my 287's from 60's/70's. Have a 337 in shop and trying to use all my old stuff in the build to stick in Bucksnort for nostalgia racing. Anyone with an old catalog or knowledge of this cam?
Bucksnort, I have an old Sig Erson catalogue from 1982. Lookin through the SBC listings I cannot find anything with exactly the number you quoted. There is a 990AH and 990SB , close to the number but not the same . There are also some R prefixed cams which appear to indicate roller tappet cam . I have scanned the relevant pages . This may give you some guidance.
Sig Erson "990 B" was what we ran in the car in my avatar in the mid 70s in a 327 with a 4 speed and 5.86 gear. The specs and description above on the "990 SB" is pretty close to what I rememeber. I believe the "990 SB" replaced the "990 B" at some point. The "990 B" was .550 / 276 @ .050 as I recall. Are you sure it is "990 R" or could it be a "B" ? There may have been an earlier version that was "R 990 R" Is it a roller or solid lifter cam?
freduece Thanks for scanning those pages Cam is from around 1970 so the grind numbers are probably different. The 337 is a freshened super stock motor, bought real cheap,so gonna flog it. Max rpm's 7000-7400.Steel rods. Got a 311 with alum.rods that should be ok to 8500. Got a few more cams to dig out. Bad B Going to shop in a day or 2.Will bring camera to shoot the number. It is a roller and could be off on the letter. Going to dive into pile of old stuff today to see if I can find card. I follow your threads, great car. Thanks for the help, guys.
Called Erson,so easy of a solution I did not think of it. 1971 issue 550 lift 290 adv dur 108 lc Good for heavy car, will zip to 8000 Sounds like it will work.
Would your Sig Erson catalog have the page for 348-409 cams? I have 2 A 990b and a 990 CH. Looking for specs on both. I ran the 990B in a .060 09 with a Z-11 top and went 11.30/120@ 4010# Thanks. Bob
