in early 1969 (age 17) I had my dad drive me to inspect and buy ($900) a 1952 MGTD w/327/4 speed/narrowed 4.88 olds rear, pie crust slicks...headers only, tagged for the street. The trans would jump out of second because of a bent shifter fork ?..owner told me the ft. tires could come off the ground ..well I drove it home. Found out I had to have it inspected and auto insurance to get tags..Maryland had an uninsured motor fund for $40/year..so that was covered..took the car to the local redneck gas sation and they had a run in with my older brother and his cars..they told me they would never inspect it and that it would need a complete exhaust system, stock rear tires/and a parking brake..side mirror SO the trans tunnel made for the 4 speed was fiberglass matt, homemade, and they had removed the parking cable mounts et al..I asked the gas station man how much they though it would cost and relized it was beyond me @ the time. kept it 10 days returned the car took a $100 loss explaned it all..later that year i bough a white 1960 stock vette ($1500) hard top/283/4 speed/4.11 posi..clutch was WORN BAD. I went to a speed shop in Germantown and met a Gil Keller I think that was his name and he had a 427 vette. went to Douglas speed/sport in Silver Spring, Maryland and bough a bill thomas racecars 427 into a early vette kit, headers/motor mounts. Saw a 427 w.hooker headers 4sale in the newspaper over in Kensington's gasoline alley for $750. bought it.It was run in an el camino in the 1968 summer nationals. had elderbrock w/holly 950 3 barrel mech 2ndarries. rented an engine hoist and assembled it in 1970 summer, put 4 inch steel IBeams between the ft supspsntion with LONG bolts to get that gasser look. took the hood and had a 427 cowel induction hood insatlled but had the hood cut out for the air . got that done @ georges corvette shop in lahamn, maryland, labor/paint was $100 on the hood. I got 8 miles to the gallon on sunco 260... had some neat junk over the years as some prices back in the day were within reach...

Great intro, the video of the car and the Welcome inn at 75 & 80 was good. Welcome from Hagerstown, Md.
HEY JON...welcome aboard. I'm a new guy around here to and found most members to be SUPER COOL. Love your video, spend my teenage years in WHITE OAK near Silver Spring. Many many nights at 75 & 80 DRAG-A-WAY. I sure miss Maryland and all the motorheads. Seems like everybody back east in Maryland has a hot rod and drives the living hell out of them, Out here you see-um at shows and every now and then going down the road.
Welcome from Rockmart GA. I'm from here originally but spent about 15 years in the Baltimore area. Good friend of mine, Dan Ivins, was pastor of First Baptist Church in Silver Spring until his retirement. Henrietta the '38 Ford pickup and Ozelle the '55 Ford send friendly horn honks.
