To be honest, I had no idea what that box came from :)

I was first looking at using one of these, however how does that address the concern you were talking about with the factory GM style mounts? Is that still an issue then?

I envy your welding skills. What sort of induction set up are you running? It looks like a tall adapter on a 4bbl intake.
    Good Luck!

I think you have probably addressed it pretty well with the oval shaped tubes. Guys have been running that crossmember with the two small tubes for years and I have never heard of an issue with the mounts. I think I have installed at least three of them and all with good results so there shouldn't be any problem with yours.
I like what you did there, Nice and clean and functional.

My welding skills envy others as well, mine are p***able but I have learned from some truly amazing talents that I just can't hold a candle to.

The intake is 2 Ford 94's on a custom slingshot, built by the ****ster sitting on a standard 4bbl manifold. I absolutely love it, works flawlessly.

  6. As to the weight resting on the mounts vs the bolt? No. That mount does address the non-issue of frame rail spreading, yet that is almost never an issue as the front crossmember on most early cars is fair close to the mounts. That mount still should have a pad to take the engine weight. And you would not be able to remove the pan, if you needed.

Keep in mind that many cars have been built without such a pad. Keep in mind also that just because something has been done does not necessarily make it the best idea.

On my '46 Ford, on which I built the mounts myself, as you did, I added the pad (chunk of 1/4 plate, about 1 inch square, as I recall), and was very happy when, after ex grenaded the engine, I was able to swap out the engine without a lot of maneuvering of the hoist.

Cool, thanks again. As I said I have a couple discs I already cut out, ill just s***ch them in place and call it a day.

I will probably be putting an x member just in front of the pan as well when I pick up some more steel.

I just grabbed a new set of mounts and have my discs ready to go in for the mounts to rest on.

I am replacing the through bolts as well, what grade should they be? Is there a shear concern with 8's?

I just wanted to say about the factory looking mounts as I meationed before. I had a nova, smallblock, 4-speed and when ever I would pull the engine the drivers side mount always fell apart from the rubber giving up. GM had a fix for this, it was a cable that attached to the upper control arm shaft. I just used a chain slightly longer to limit engine travel because I run the snot out of it almost everyday.

I'll have to watch travel and if I see that as an issue I'll be sure to ad a limiting strap, thanks for the tip.

Added some gussets per suggestion, nice look too.

They are just tacked in in the pic but you get the idea.
