at least it seems simple...on my 64 ford f150 when i flip my headlights on my tailights and brake lights go out...headlights stay on.....so trace the wiring and find a wire running directly from the positive battery post in through the firewall directly into the headlight switch itself....on this wire someone had installed a in line 30 amp fuse....the wires for my brakes are spliced into this wire giving them juice until i flip the headlight switch on and the fuse blows......please help my retarded ***!
The fuse powering the headlights blows and you still have power? You have another power source somewhere.
It sounds like you have a mess from a former owner. The first thing that I'd do is get a shop manual that shows the original wiring diagram. Then you can see what it is supposed to look like. If someone has jury rigged only the lighting circuit then you can restore that part. If the whole truck is "rigged" then an after market harness could be a cheaper, safer alternative. I'd bet that reproduction original harnesses are available if you look. They can be expensive but you may be able to buy only the segments that you need.
