Simple Timing Question

Firing while the intake is open (advanced) will cause backfiring throught he carb. Firing while the exhaust is open (retarded) will cause backfiring through the exhaust.

Is there a timing mark on the balancer you can use for TDC? Just pull a plug and make sure you're building pressure as the mark starts to line up. Then line up the rotor so it is approaching the #1 wire on the cap.
