... non-flammable?! WTF? I have VERY fond memories of setting Floriduh palmetto bugs on fire with Brake Kleen... I HATE those things! They stunk something awful, but it was always worth it to see the flames shooting out from under their winged backs like the nose cone of a Japanese Zero augering in. Boy Wonder comes into the garage the other day and says "I thought this stuff would be flammable. It's not." Those, by the way, are not words a parent is particularly happy to hear from the 15 year old pizza destroyer. After my head stopped doing donuts on my shoulders, I did what every responsible parent... okay, what every father would do, and busted out the Brake Kleen and a match. Nope... No flambola. Obviously, this is the kind of thing that keeps me up nights. So when did that change? -Brad
Remember the post last year about it causing brain damage when burnt? That may have something to do with a reblend of things.http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=382835&highlight=welding+brakeclean
I thought that was when it was exposed to high temp and UV, as when welding. Stuff still kills black widows faster'n ****, though. -KK
You can thank the tree huggers for that! VOC's are bad, bad, bad. Volatile Organic Compounds are good solvents, and they burn nicely, but they are outlawed now.
every tuesday night years ago we'd all meet up after work and play a real lousy game of golf, then drinking beer in the car park afterwards, the best thing to chill our beer, BRAKE CLEAN , spray it on the can before opening , nice.(we got our brake clean for zip, we all worked at a car dealership). thommo.
It wasn't actually burning, it was super-heated and evaporated, giving off a poison gas. I would imagine that compound is totally different when it actually ignites with flame. -Brad
they had the chlorinated stuff, then the non-chlorinated stuff so it would protect our precious ozone layer, now they have non-chlorinated low VOC stuff to keep YOUR kid from having fun. It's a gummint conspiracy to **** with O****.
The brake kleen I bought at O'Reilly's last week is flammable - it's also the best wasp and hornet killer ever.
you probly have the stuff in the red can wich is non-flamable and clorinated. go out and buy the stuff in the green can, that stuff it non-clorinated and still flamable. that red can stuff stinks to high heaven but is suppose to be safer then the green can stuff because it no go boom.
Not sure about this, but I have been told that Brake-Kleen, when run through an engine, converts to clone of phosgene. Better known as nerve gas. I imagine that burning it does the same.
I got my Craftsman 12 volt cordless drill really grimy on a project recently. So, to clean it up, I used the green can Brakekleen to spiff it up............ DUMB! It melt/welded every piece of the plastic to each other. The switch, the forward/reverse slide, the chuck dial, the battery are all one piece of plastic now......
^^^^ HAHAHAHAHA!!!! SInce you are typing pretty well, I ***ume you are okay and have all your digits, which is why it is now officially okay to laugh at you!
I really miss triclorethane. It's been a LONG time since they made the change. I just use WD-40 & a lighter to kill bugs now.
Somebody get this guy a bag of ice!!! I can only imagine drinkin beer with the cans all slathered in brake kleen.
