So i got these single piston corvette calipers... I was told single piston = need brake booster...? Four piston = no nned? Anyone experienced .... do i really need it for these calipers? My Hilborn manifold doesn't have a vacuum port...! I made a small one 3/16 spider to all ports for vacum to the "computer thingy" Probably not big enough for brake booster? Mahalo Tommy
The number of piston in the caliper is not the deciding factor in whether you need a booster. Among the factors that collectively will determine whether you need or want a booster, or not, are.....the total area of the caliper pistons and wheel cylinders versus the master cylinder bore size, the brake pedal ratio, the brake rotor and drum diameters, the friction material of brake pads/shoes, weight of the vehicle, tire sizes and your satisfaction with the pedal pressure required without a booster. It is entirely possible that you will be satisfied with the results of your brake system without a booster, but very difficult to predict with certainty, given the variables involved. Put it together and try it. Ray
Do a search for Corvette brakes to find what master cylinder was used with the calipers you have. I would guess there were manual and PB options for the YOM of your calipers.
Finally found something....(there is such a thing as Identify your swap meet corvette disk breaks here...) http://www.mamotorworks.com/corvette/subcategory/c4-brake-calipers-caliper-brackets-hardware C4 - 1984 to 1987 calipers... http://www.mamotorworks.com/corvette/subcategory/c4-brake-master-cylinders-components Master Cylinder http://www.mamotorworks.com/corvette/subcategory/c4-brake-boosters-components And yes...a GIGANTIC break booster... I think I need a plan B...
Anyone tried one of these...?...under the floor... 100% increase in system pressure without vacuum or hydraulics/electric power http://www.hotrodhotline.com/engine...s-its-new-universal-brake-assist#.VRRDqPzF98E Mahalo Tommy
Called them...They pulled the product...(some problems)...re-engineering... Price?...depends on the parts they're gonna use....call us back in 5-6 weeks... I guess I'll have to find something else... I probably just try a master cylinder with a good ratio...make sure pedal ratio is good...etc. ...we'll see? Thanks for all the input guys!
