Kirby had the turbine system way back in the day. I guess The guns have come a long way since. I haven't used one , so How much do you need to thin the materials? Your comment makes it sound like it's beyond the manufactures specs.
I've been told that using the tip size recommended by Fuji for my particular gun that I will be able to spray the Acrylic urethane or epoxy primer without thinning just as if using a compressor supplied gun. I guess I will find out
Here's their tip size selection chart. http://www.fujispray.com/FUJI Quick Reference Sheet 20130822.pdf
For water in my old compressor,I've opened the drain valve slightly to eliminate the water issue during a paint job. My new compressor has an automatic bleeder. It bleeds my tank every 10 min for about 3-5 secs. I also have an expensive water separator on the hard line. Glad you solved you problem.
Don't know about the specs, but definitely more than the instructions on the side of the can. I use a drip cup which has timed flow to determine if it's been reduced enough. Basically, you add thinner, stir, then dip the drip cup into the paint, and time how long it takes the cup to empty. I'm operating from memory here, so some paint you thin to 6-8 seconds and another you thin to 13-15 seconds. Don't remember which. Whoa. That would be kinda cool. We used to shoot a bunch of urethane/epoxy on airplanes and I seem to recall thinning it a bunch. That was over 10 years ago, though. My last paint job I did in 2015 and did an old 4x4 with enamel and it was thinned significantly past the instructions on the can. I am really interested in how your paint turns out.
