I've been wondering which single barrel downdraft carburetor models have the best performance capability. I've been asking this question on other forums and groups and everyone there just sort of tosses 1bbl carbs completely aside and says they're worthless. That said, my local machinist, a proper old timer, says that he's had good luck using a single barrel on a Ford 200 six that had some head work and a custom cam from isky. The only downside is he can't seem to remember what model carburetor it was, but he remembers it flowing somewhere between 225 and 275 cfm. I'd really like to know what carburetor he was referring to, so mayhaps someone here has an idea. Either that, or if you know of a 1 bbl that shines above the rest, I'd like to hear about that as well.

The Carter YFA has about the biggest venturi of any common one bbl carb I've seen. Dunno the CFM, but they were used for years on the 300 Ford six and work pretty well.
