  1. The state fair track in Huron has a website with lots of circle track pics, I do not have the URL anymore, it will come up in a web search tho.

I know Tom Vigna! He is currently building a Super Stock S-10 drag truck. He even taught me how to drive big rigs!:D

    Good afternoon Gentleman:

I am new to the Forum. I am responding to someone's query re: The Pizza Man, the '54 Corvette Drag Car (99th Corvette produced in '54) I am the current owner of that car. I purchased it from Dana Mecum (Dana Mecum Auctions) for $45,000 in 1999. It was part of his private collection of historic Corvettes. I had been at the BRIC at Elkhart Lake that year and Dana had held an auction on the ground of the Ostoff Resort Hotel. That car was in attendance. I did bid on the car, but it did not meet the reserve. Later that week, I contacted Dana and I purchased the car from him in a private transaction.

The car was pretty much devoid of all the original lettering and the Weber 45mm DCOE sidedrafts were gone, too. The wheels were Cragar SS which were used later (circa 1970) and the chrome reverse (rear) and the Salt Flat kidney style (front) were also gone. Later in the career of the car, 48mm IDA Webers had been used and there are some pictures with the car employing the huge hood scoop to accommodate the velo stacks on the downdraft carbs. That hood also came with the car. All of this has now been changed back to the way the car was when it was campaigned in 1967. I have tried to make the car look the way it did when it was showcased in the Victory Circle at Indy (Summer Nats) in 1967. I have had many of the original decals handcrafted and, in some instances, painted on the car.

The Britt Family--more, specifically, Sam Britt--was nice enough to provide me with all the original (eight) NHRA National Class Title Certificates and racing photos. It took me over five years to convince him that I was for real and that I was not interested in selling the car. He was right to do what he did by withholding them. He had a number of people trying to secure those over the years but he never gave them up.

The car, as someone mentioned, has a great history, and if anyone can add to that, I would very much appreciate it (memories/stories).
The car is headed to the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. in September.

Fastest time? In F/MP it set a National Record @12.17 in 1970, although Sam Britt told me that they had run an unofficial 11.97 that year.

If anyone has any info to offer, please free to contact me at: jhampton@triwest.net

    Thanks

    Dan Hampton

I KNOW .. pictures survive of the car , it was a local icon

Sams Pizza was a hot spot back in the day( this was LONG before pizza was common)

I was just a pee wee back then and was never interested in that brand of car ..but, remember it and the Gremlin as well

    Congrats on your purchase !!!

IIRC it was taken by urban renewal in the late 60's or early 70's for a god damm parking ramp

I was born in 1958 and my uncle and aunt in law took me there once about 1968 or so

I'm glad you found the HAMB and shared those photos with us

Is there anyone out there with pics from old Colins Field Raceway in LeMars, Iowa? Track was gone by early '70's. Spent many Saturday nights there in 1970 watching those insane supermodifieds. My cousin Larry Herbst won the '70 Champ Night "A"........aaaaahhhhh THE GOOD OLD DAYS!

  13. Anyone else have pictures from the Nebraska/Iowa area? Just to clear up things, the Tension '57 was infact sitting for years untouchted and full of history, the dashboard full of class winner plaques, but it was junked in fairly recent years and does not exist anymore. The In-Bomber is being restored by my father and I. It is in rough shape but we just caught it in time and plan on bringing it back out midwest to the Hot Rod Reunion and run it again after 40 years. The Good-In-Tension '57 of Fred Anderson does still exist, but it is desguised as a street rod, painted purple and currently for sale somewhere in Nebraska.

Hi Tim how is everything ? ..
someone should run a wanted ad in the ARGUS .. for 8mm films and pics, you know there is 100's of them there

Even if it was to just borrow them

I have a collection of old pics I let ass whistle take from me 20 years ago to "show his buddies" and can't get them back .. I've asked several times

Suppose its about 350 of the valley 72-ish to 82-ish

    Take care

Dan, glad to see you posted on the Pizza Man. I just found this pic in the Richard Wood grouping above under Keystone/Bison Dragway. Photo says it is the exploded 6 cylinder out of your car August 1, 1970.-Jim

Rod Reisdorph's Prime Secret burned to the ground on his trailer on the way to Columbus, NE Rod run quite a few years ago. He is now building a mid 60's Chevy II I think. Someday maybe he will have it on the road.

Actually it was Prime Secret he raced out there, It was a 39 Chevy Sedan Delivery that he build that towed the car. It was called Prime Delivery. It was painted to match Prime Secret. It was his wife and 3 kids that went.
