Art & Inspiration Sitting and Rotting.............picture thread

  1. I,ll have a guess at the rear axle ( look close, open drive ) with aluminium brake drums and say it,s from something mundane, boring and British. Maybe Vauxhall , big Austin or Morris, Standard Vanguard. Those big disc wheels & front axle are certainly antique. Maybe French.

  9. The taillights on that Singer Vogue would look good on many different applications.

Its amazing what computers can do. If I didn't know better, I would have believed that was a painting. Very cool!

Yep. I was going to say Mack as well. It looks like about a '25' or '26 Mack C cab

Now that you mention it, I've seen that logo and that's where. I just couldn't put 2 and 2 together.
So why the chain drive off of what looks like an axle?
I have a front shot will get it posted tonight.

That's just the way Macks were then, they were chain driven.
This is what I first thought of when I saw the pic of the old truck!

  19. Macks weren't the only ones with chain drive. Most big trucks were chain drive back in the days of solid rubber tires. I've seen chair drive on Whites, Autocars, Jeffries (built by Nash), and others.

Packard made trucks back then. Chain drive was the big tech in the day.
Called a lot of mechanics and drivers, "Stubby".

Brought my old parts car home from my sisters farm.
So this one sitting and rotting was my fault.

It is definitely salvageable and when I finish the 54 I am building. Once I take anything I need. I will send it down the road to the guy who wants to put the time into it. That guy isn't me for this one. Am putting about the same amount of work into the one I am building. Only because I grew up in the car.
The only history I have with this car is that my 3rd grade teacher owned this. I remember it being parked at the school way back then.
I might change my mind once mine is done. But doubt it.[IMG][IMG]

  27. Not only have I started with cars that didn't look as good as that '54 Chevy, I've driven cars that didn't look that good. When I was in college at Jacksonville State (Alabama) in the early '70s, there was a guy from New Jersey a few doors down in the dorm. He gave $75 for a '49 Plymouth that was rougher than that '54 Chevy, put a set of tires on it, changed the oil, and drove it from New Jersey to Alabama. He drove that car through 4 years of college. It looked rough but it never left him stranded,

Had a plan to turn it into a gasser when my other one is done.
Was going to call it "Rotten Gas"
Might still do that. But already sold a lot of the vintage gasser parts I was going to put on it.
I do dig the patina it has.
Plan to buff the paint out and polish this turd. Mainly so it doesn't look like such a piece of junk. Should keep my wife... and my neighbors happier that way.

  29. It was a nice day here in the valley today. Great for some vintage tin hunting. No bees or snakes. And the leaves are off the trees. So the tin shows up much better. lol So I found these. Ron... 034.jpg 035.jpg
