This GMC is in a junkyard near LaSalle ILL. Not much of it left, but over the last few weekends, I've been getting a few engine parts. Three weeks ago, I got the valve cover, rocker arms and shafts, water pump and harmonic balancer.

Today, I got the oil pan, side cover, and oil filler tube. Planning to go back next Saturday to get the front cover, oil pump, and hopefully the flywheel. Near as I can tell, it's a First Series 1955 GMC.

I would clean the blue paint off that pontiac fender, do some cleanup and touch up, wheels/tires, windows down and roll if it runs, or could be made to, and if I werent wanting to get too crazy spending money.

  6. Ive got one of those in my hoard. Already sold the doors. the cab is solid except for the surface rust (Patina?) mine has the 248 engine. on a pad next to the dist it will tell engine size. 228-248- 270- or 302. If its a 270 or 302 try and get the entire engine. I can tell from the grill & bumper on the one you pictured its a bob truck like mine. Big Trucks s GMC cab 001.JPG GMC cab 002.JPG GMC cab 003.JPG GMC cab 004.JPG hould have the larger diameter clutch.

It's a 65 Galaxie 4 door. It isn't a very big yard, and it can be walked in about an hour. Most of the cars and trucks have been picked over, but there's still a lot of cool stuff in there. This includes a mostly complete 57 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser 4 door, and a 58 Dodge.

Here's a link to their Craigslist ad.

Here's some more photos from the same yard.....Some of which are courtesy of Rusty1, here on The HAMB. By the way, there's a few mid 1960's Rancheros, and Mustangs, too.

It's a 270, small port engine. The engine was full of water, and locked up. When I pulled the oil pan, it was full to the top with water. Surprisingly, the inside of the pan was very clean, and not rusty at all.

The truck itself must have been a pretty nice one when it was new. The cab was a Deluxe 5 window. Someone bought the cab last year in the middle of winter.

I recently bought a NOS 302 short block, and a used 302 head. Since a 270 parts engine came with the 302, I really don't need another complete 270. There was a pleasant surprise with the "parts" 270. After running the date codes and casting numbers, it ended up being a 1951 270, with a 270 H head.

  13. That's a 55 first series with the 5 window cab. and the extra stainless trim. The tops of the bedsides are flat.

  16. Maybe that's what it ended up like after some use as a barricade?

One more from Israel (pics by Yahav Tsumi). Owner rolled the car and walked away. The car - for obvious reasons - was totalled by the insurance but he kept it to remind him how lucky he was... And so it has been standing for who knows how long.

Those are THE must-have early custom car bumpers on that DeSoto. If that car was available for parts to be purchased, those would come home with me, for sure.

Long ways to haul it back from WV. I imagine it is for sale also but whether it could be bought is another story. I got the feeling that the family wanted the stuff sold but the guy who owned the stuff was in no hurry to sell. He took the for sale sign off the 55 after we looked at it.

  26. If that DeSoto is where I think it is on highway 431 on top of Sand Mountain near Mountainboro, the guy that owns all those cars thinks they are worth their weight in gold and it will probably rot into the ground there before he will take a reasonable price for his stuff.
