This Ford ute was on fleabay in 2017. It has Anglia panels on the front but it might have been an earlier model, possibly as early as 1938. IMG_0860.JPG IMG_0861.JPG IMG_0862.JPG

  9. ^^^ The front wheel is early VW Bug,. JW

006.JPG Above photo is of circa-1950 Prefect ute.

Yes, it's a VW wheel on the front. The rear mudguard is one feature that tells me the ute could be as early as 1938. See how the rear mudguard is very 'thin' from front to back and the wheel is not centred. On later Prefect and Anglia utes the rear part of the mudguard wraps around more to get closer to the tyre, making the rear wheel centred in the opening. Also, the dash is early: missing from this ute is the bakelite panel housing the instruments, but I can make out the bakelite glove box lid on the left; the centre of the dash is steel, with knobs for choke and starter and it looks like it has a chromed window winder. It could be from 1938 or a 1939/early post-war build. (I should have gone to look at this ute; I wonder if it ended up as 'yard art'.)

  23. I always wonder how the chrome parts can resist the rust while they were in salty water a long time. The engine block now has some beef for an overbore again
