Man that irks me too, I have no problem if someone asks me if I have any suitable cars for demo, or if I know of any... but when they come to look at a nice old car, or a restored car I have for sale, offer 1/10th what I'm asking and say it's only good for a demo derby... I'm not the type to beat some one up, but there have been time I have been close.

I had some guys come by one day last year to look at a 59 Ford truck I had for sale, minor rust, good running 223, and they wanted it for a demo derby and were willing to pay the asking price, I told them to GTFO, another bunch actually had the nerve to ask to buy my fully restored 31 Pontiac daily driver for a demo derby!!! WTF??? I hope they never ever find any car for that purpose as they have no respect for vintage tin.

OK,,,,,,, So,,,, Way back in my drinking days I was driving through the fog on a bright sunny day,,,,,,, Just lost as hell. Not relay giving a dam of where I was going at the time I happen to run across this equipment shed along side the road. While Trying to navigate the corner and sill rubber neck at the same time I happen to see a 59 caddy bumper (So I thought) peeking out from one of the doors that wasn't quite closed. After spinning Lou'Lou'Bell around,,, my 69 Fleetwood Broham,, I was back to investigate and,,,,,,,,,, sure as shit,,,, A 59.
After out running the dog over the fence and back to the car this place just seemed to have vanished,,,,,, OK,,, Well lets put it this way,,,, I can't quite remember where the hell it was. End of story,, Right?
NOT,,,,, Fast forward about 9 or 10 years,,,, This place popped back up on the map with barb wire and no trespassing signs all over the place. Wow,,, What a relief,,, It wasn't a dream. That was over 4 years ago. Ok, So,,Today I was out picking up some auction crap from Canadian snow bird in northern minnesota and thought I would take a detour,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  12. I know its in Bakersfield

  13. I'm not positive, but it looks to have the M-H 4x4 conversion also. If so, it's a fairly rare truck...

good thread. sad to see stuff going back to nature... interesting... but it is hard to save them all. all it takes is money. lots of it. (and some elbow grease.)

Nothing personal at all. From the time I was a kid everytime I would go by a junkyard I never saw the junk I just saw what it could be. I just get agitated when I see anything car wise going to junk or getting to the point of no return.espicially 70's and on back. I what movies sometimes just so I can see that era of cars. I was a child in the 70's and maybe these old cars take me/us to a time that just seemed better and with the folks we miss.

  26. I remember a few nice cars that were lost to the crusher at a local self service wrecking yard that I used to frequent about 30 years ago. One was a near mint '58 Cadillac CDV that the only thing I saw that was wrong with it was the transmission was in the trunk. The other was a 57 Plymouth Fury that had absolutely nothing visibly wrong with it. I found papers in it that it had even been part of some endurance runs in the late 50's and 60's. A few months later I saw both cars in the crushed car stacks. I remember seeing all kinds of cars that would be considered very collectable and valuable these days like GTO's, a few 55-57 T-Birds, Ford Retractables, etc. in that yard.

I LOVE this thread! Footfeed, I'd have to say, YOU
found some pretty rare shit, man .

If these two cars haven't been picked over already, I'd
go back and see if the goodies are still under the hoods,
too. :) The 326 was a decent engine in STOCK form, so
I'd love to know what the factory hopped this model up
with! And if that "Hash" is a '56, the Twin-H outfit
    could still be there.:D

I totally feel like I was born about 40 years late.. Never hung out with guys
my own age in high school. I would go hang out at a shop in town, where
the next youngest guy to me, was in his mid 40's. They were Korean, and
Vietnam vets, who swapped stories of street racing and drag strips.. and
the crazy assed things that they used to do and get away with.

Any more info about this car? I can tell it's a 64 Pontiac but is it a Lemans or a Tempest? My bet it's a Tempest more door or long roof. It looks like a good car worth saving.
