This poor guy is doomed, the rear just isn't rusted, it got popped pretty good before it made it there. Needs a full rear clip saddly and probably a frame.

 

Passed yesterday along side of road.

 

I think these are past the rotting stage.

 

That's looks more like iron enriched soil amendment.

 

What kind of car is this?

Here are a few from our trip to Hawaii. The truck was on the side of the road and the misc engine parts were scattered along the beach.

 

came across this sweet little '36 Gas truck:


and this one sits on a hill - think it is a 1935 Olds?

 

This is a '55 belair in that yard too.

 

THAT amazes me. It would just sit there on the side of a nice highway in full view for all these decades.

 

Is that a 1957 Skyliner Retractable? If so, that's just all kinds of wrong.

 

Its a crying shame, the village mongers finally forced there way in with a crusher team. This is all "recycled" now.

The full story of this yard goes like this: During the depression, 1930 to be exact, the mans father opened a repair shop as a means to pay the bills. Back then people fixed there cars rather than replaced them. There are train tracks that run directly behind the property. Back in the day the train would deliver factory direct parts right to the yard. Complete box cars packed with model A crate engines, axles, springs, wishbones, ect... Back then it was a thriving business.
Fast forward a few years to 1941, said owner of the shop was deployed to Europe and did not return home untill 1946. Sometime between '41 and '46 the gov't came in and took "quite a bit of cars" for the war effort. When the owner came home and found that over half his stock was lost he closed his doors to the public. He wasn't the same ever since. He refused to sell any of his remaining parts for any price.
All of the cars pictured in the ravine have been sitting there since 1941. When they were put there they were in like new condition.

Right on both counts. I had a '57 in HS that was in rough shape back then, but the top worked fine.

 

cars and trees for some reason just don't mix.we too in virginia have places like this all the good stuff is gone of course but it's a thrill just to walk through and look never know what you'll find.

 

I saved these photos from an ebay ad several years back. It looks like it was a state of the art hot rod back in the day. I hope it made it back to the streets.

I love the shot of the dash - you can almost imagine being behind the wheel cruising...

 

hey from bluefield wv heavychev. i think G&B Auto Parts in Floyd still has some old stuff and I heard tell of a yard in the Floyd area that has alot of old Fords. Know of any other yards around the area? I am looking for a 68-72 ford truck cab

This is down in the woods below my mothers house... I remember playing around it as a kid. There is also an old house that Im guessing the owner of this car lived. I need to go down there and drag it out of the woods one day. I'd atleast like to grab the door to hang up in the garage

Found this '49 the other day while I was working on a tract for a landowner. It was scattered in several chunks, I'm thinking that was just their method of getting it out of the way when the land was last cleared.

 

'54 Plymouth Savoy 2dr post, one owner, purchased new locally. This one thankfully though is being saved.

 

I wonder what kinda cab that is. I noticed the Elkin,NC on the door and I realized that I don't live far from where that truck came from!
