This is my Austin A-40 powered by a turboed 170cid slant 6. Picture is from 1969 and I never could get it to launch. It needed a high stall converter (Capri ?) which I couldn't afford. I sold it in 1971 or so to some guys who said they were going to take it to the southeast. It was called "The Turbonic Plague". I've completely lost track of it. Anyone seen it? I ran it a few times at Lions. The picture was taken in Torrance CA.
Junior Stock: That's Pat Hennebery I think he's from New York (not real sure) I think the pic is at INDY (and they came from all around for INDY).....
I have to be honest with ya - I've never been there, I think it closed before I was even born. My Dad used to go when he was a teenager, I do know the location of the original site. I grew up in the area and am familliar with the geography, I was able to guess correctly from that and studying other photos of the track.
Lowell Roemers' car from the Phoenix area. This pic may have been taken at Mel Larson's Phoenix dragway. That sorta looks like the White tank mountains southwest of the track. A lil history; http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=737695&highlight=the+scrambler
Six gun The turbo slant six ran 106 mph with a lousy et, around 17 sec. I was shifting at 8000rpm with a stock bottom end,but I used a hemi rotor in the oil pump to get the pressure to 80psi.
Don't think so - the "grass" or weeds are not right for the area and that checkerboard blue and yellow thing is definitely Not familiar to Old San Gabe. I think it might be Phoenix ?
It is with much sadness that I heard of the passing of John Peto this morning. John was a lifelong racer of inline sixes (several of which have been pictured on this site). He was a great innovator, an absolute wizard of a machinist, and owner of one of the baddest seven-second six cylinder altereds on the planet. His wife, Ann, was also a two-time IHRA world champion in their Ford powered altered. My condolonces to Ann. John will be missed by many.
SAD NEWS John was my mentor and the reason I race a six, I will miss him a lot, one of the best people I've ever meet!!!!! My condolences to his wife ANN...
