Can anyone tell me if the Clifford headers fit the 215 and 223 sixes with out a lot of h***le? It seems that I read on the H.A.M.B. that they didn't fit very good. Member LOST AT SEA has a line on some for me but I don't want him getting them if they don't work.
This may sound silly, but call Clifford. I've found them very helpful in the past regarding questions on their products.
Try posting it on the forum at www.fordsix.com too, there should be more info there. In '52 & 53 they had a center crossmember which was no longer there when Ford went to the IFS suspension in '54 when the 223 came out.
I will let you know in a few weeks when I get the motor back in my car. I spoke to Larry at Clifford. He wasn't sure if they would work without modification or not. I am getting my cam and valvetrain from them as well as the intake, header and carb so I'll put some pictures up of what I needed to do to make it work.
Got a set this summer and they are a major pain - 1953 with the 215 - I had to cut the collector flanges off - On the rear I had to remove the clutch linkage and grind about 1/4" off the block where the bell-housing mounts (Would be a problem with the 223 also). The front right cross-member had to be cut out and boxed in (only needed if a 52 or 53 with the 215) I had to refab a new front motor mount on the left side (needed to be relocated) I still don't know what I'm going to do about the clutch linkage yet - I might make up a hydraulic setup? I think you'll need to change the intake also - I'm running the Clifford 4 bbl intake. Pictures are before boxing in - engine is still dirty Collector cut off and cross-member cut out 1/4" ground off of block
