Once the inner flange was fitted, it was tack-welded starting at the center on ¾ spread. Once totally tacked in, the fender flange was welded solid, strong, light, simple.

90% of the work done on this build has been done by Skill Center training program students. The 2 student technicians that are working on this car just started in July and had very little experience. The guys are doing industry quality work already and get a boost to their confidence when you guys compliment their project. The pictures don’t do justice to the workmanship in this car. And as an instructor it’s a great thing to see the build take shape.
    Thanks,
    Mark

What is the name of the powder coating company in Crossville? Can anyone pick through the scrap bin?

Dave, the whole reason for the updated suspension is the introduction of the radial tire which is far superior to a bias ply in a cornering situation. Before that, there was not much reason to alter the suspension because the tires were so limited as to what they could handle.

I disagree, even in the bias ply era there were cars set up to handle and cars not set up to handle. A '63 Corvette is a good example of the former, a '54 Chevy a good example of the latter. So one could still improve the Chevy within the limits of the selected tire.

I readily admit that the bias ply car is never going to handle as well as the radial car, but that wasn't the question, the question was optimizing a fifties chassis to work with a fifties tire.
