Hot Rods Skuff plates

My "33 5W needs a pair of "sill/skuff" plates and none seem to be available except for the milled aluminum ones that I don't want. The 3W versions are readily available so here's my question. If they
were simply shortened at the rear would they fit? Would the screw holes line up? Has anyone tried this? I don't want to buy a pair only to find out I was dreaming.
