The orange is out, as usual plans change.

Thanks, I will be doing the bodywork myself like everything else since money is tight. I wish had the funds to pay a pro to do it but I'm sure I can get it presentable. I've invested in some good Dura blocks and guns and will just take my time blocking it out until I get it as straight as I can when the time comes. I know a candy would be cool but it's out of my league on what I think is do-able for me, so.....I'm going to use a single stage urethane, planning on a stock Model A color combo, have it narrowed down to 3 color schemes that I like from 1931, now I just need to finalize a decision.

How do you spell the sound you make when you drool? Killer car sir! The stance and build quality is awesome! Really creative on the rear frame kick ups and cross members. I may have missed it but why didn't you just make the curved pieces out of flat plate that was out and welded together? It would have been hard to cut it and bend it possibly and you may have had to test fit it and keep bending or un-bending it all to fit nicely. I may have answered my own questions so I appoligize for that. Either way, I don't care, it looks awesome and youre recycling and not wasting anything! I love it! Keep it up!

Thanks, I could have gotten all the pieces and shapes laser cut and then welded them together but I had a front set of frame rails I made for another project that I sold so once I got looking at them and realized I could make the rear kicks by pie cutting I was sold. Sure it was more work but I managed to utilize some steel that was just sitting around. In retrospect if I was to build a frame like this again I would probably just get the pieces laser cut, LOL

Rite on man thats cool....it'll look good with a vintage color! I did all the body n paint on my 51 truck in my backyard last year (mid 30s ford color in a base/clear solvent base urathane), It was the first time for anything other then some motorcycle parts, fridges and play around stuff. It actually came out really well considering all the above! Good guns, correct blocks and a friendly product will be your best friends!:D I used shitty cheap ass guns and had to cut some orange peal..should have bought a better on! Look forward to the color combo

Cheers man, I read your 51 truck build, pretty impressive, I loved the color you went with, it's actually very similiar to my 1st choice for the coupe. I'll have a ton of questions with regards to the body work and paint on the body when I get to it, hoping you and others will chime in with some advice.

    I've got a few welders, for migs I have a 220V Hobart 185, and a Miller 135. I like using .020 or .023 wire and 75/25 mix, meaning 75% Argon and 25% CO2.

  9. Not to start a pissing match, but is this considered a Rat Rod. Or somewhere in the middle !
Just wondering the definition of the fraise !

LOL, seems to me that is exactly what you are aiming for with a question like that. It is irrelevant to this thread, I would think at over 800 posts you would know by now what a rat rod is but I guess you don't. Your question disrupts the build thread that is currently happening and would appreciate if you started your own thread on what a rat rod is or is not. Thanks

if that was my car and someone had the balls to call it a rr to my face, they would most likely get a mouth full of my fist.

I got a question on your suspension (and it's by no means a slam, just something I ran into before, and didnt know how to fix).

Dont the 4 link bars need to be the same length? I was thinking that 2 diff lengths would cause different arcs? (the shorter one causing more change due to smaller length from pivot)?? Seems like the shorter bar would cause more push/pull on the top. Am i wrong?

    Either way, INCREDIBLE craftsmanship.

sorry but i hate the words rat rod, gets under my skin, rods are rods, whomever came up with this term needs a bullet in the brain
this fraze is straight out demeaningful and offensive just because its a general term doesnt mean everyone whom owns a vehicle that is out of ordinary is one
Soz hooligan just had to say my piece, back to your build as great as it is mate

After 2 weeks of banging my head over a paint scheme, today I finally made a decision and went and got all the paint made. I sure hope it comes together in real life as it did in my head, LOL

  20. Can't wait to see it painted! I'm sure it'll come together. The mechanicals kill.

You are one hell of a fabricator!! But I dot get why you would want a "hot rod" slammed like that? There is no rake or attitude a early 30's fenderless car has no real flow so by giving it rake helps make it look meaner. Sorry for the rant you do good work just a little out of my style.

Thanks for the kudos on the fabrication.

I'm not sure why people like "light beer" but I guess to each there own, LOL. Seriously though, everyone likes something different, if we didn't, hot rodding would be boring.

If you don't think this car has rake or attitude then I don't know what you qualify rake as. That being said, I can set the rake to as much or as little as I want via the air.

Yeah, but how tall is the girl?

  26. Actually they had cars low down in the 40s and 50s with no rake. If you check out Women that work on cars post, theres a woman that built an old model A real low to the ground back in the late 40s.
Just because your world back then didn't have low cars with no rake doesn't mean that there weren't others building them this way. I love the slammed look and looking through all my old late 40s and 50s Hotrod magazines, there are plenty of people back then and now that agree.. I have 13 boxes full of this history in print.
I also like them raked which is a killer look. Thats why air bags are cool. Best of both worlds. Oh and there were air bagged cars even back in the 50s.

  27. Or caffeine free coffee? WTF!! I really don't get why people throw their opinions on anyone else's build. It's your build , not theirs. If they like raked, fendered, chopped but not channeled, Channeled but not chopped, sectioned, channeled and chopped, thats to their own discretion. Just like wide whited vs black-walls. I like them all and would never insult someone else's build. It may not be what I like but its not my car. And as I said, if I see something I don't like, I leave my opinions off the keyboard. When I like something, I comment on it.
I love what you are doing "to your car"!!!!! Keep it up!!

Thats a great reply Rabid Whippet..

there is nothing like some positive response to keep you going on the days .. your not feeling motivated, from what I have seen on this site,is mostly that ... a lot of great ,positive people .. who are supportive.

    great job hooliganshotrods :D

I have to agree. People have a tendency to justify their own decisions by condeming others. I'm always impressed with the "quality" of a build whether the end result is aesthetically pleasing to me or not. Keep at it.

Damn you are quiete the craftman! You make it look easy, so In my book that means you are a Pro!

I don't get the bags, and I'm never gonna ride this low, but it still looks bad ass sitting on it's belly. Glad you build it like you wants it!

To the sub-topic started I have to things to say:
If you are man enough to put it up her, you are man enough to put up with other peoples (sometime stupid) comments.
Drinking light beer is like bumping ugly with your sister, it might feel good, but deep down you know you are sick!!!

What is the latest plan paint-wise, or is that a secret?
