Can anyone tell me the length of a 170 slant six from back of the head to the front of the water pump. Also the measurement from crank centerline to outside of the head. Might try to put one in my 34 dodge pickup, but need to know if it will fit under a full hood. Thanks...Greg

From memory I think they are about 32 inches. Quite a bit longer than the original flathead six, which surprised me. Not long ago I saw a 49 Plymouth with a slant six put in, they had to tunnel the engine about 6" back into the firewall. Have seen a 55 Dodge pickup with a similar firewall hack, to fit the slant six.

A V6 or even a V8 will go in easier. A Plymouth/Dodge/ DeSoto or Chrysler flathead six fits easiest, even though the DeSoto/Chrysler is 2" longer.

I do not know if the dimensions are the same as a 170 mine is a 225 from a 74 Dodge dart. Sorry about the link I can't figure out how to post a pic without the link. Check on www.slantsix.org there is a wealth of knowledge over there and they should be able to answer your question.
