Okay. This might ruffle some feathers. But, why is it that guys are building primered, straight piped, ground-s****ing rods and TRAILERING them to events?

Went to a great show this weekend. You can guess which one by my location (and probably other threads). And while the wife, baby, and I were packin' up our Poncho to leave, we see some dude drive his flattie-powered "hell rod" into an enclosed race car trailer accross the street (safely away from prying eyes, after the lot was empty).

I'm making a point to be semi-vague with this. Don't want to "call out" this guy if he really had something broken. But the damn thing ran good, looked to have brakes and tags and everything at a glance.

Maybe I'm tired, grumpy, and need to go to bed. But Christ! How friggin' ridiculous. It's come full circle, now. What are you worried about, chippin' the primer?!

Say it with me, folks. Trailers are for horses and race cars. I'm having a beer and going to bed, damnit.

Where was he from & how long a drive was it for him? How many people rode to the show with him? Did he have little kids that needed to be in a car seat? Those are things alot of people go by when they decide to trailer a ride. Personally, I don't care if its trailered to a show or not. I prefer to drive 'em everywhere myself, but some people don't. Its thier cash & their rod, so I don't worry 'bout it much.

After the beer & a little sleep, you'll feel much better! [IMG]

My Roadster is not uncomfortable, but on a roundtrip of more than 5 or 6 Hours the "ergonomic limitations" become a little hard to overlook.
So if you see it on a Trailer, I am on a long trip, or it is broken.
In both cases there would be good reason to make fun of me, so go ahead. [IMG]
I lost all sense of shame about Trailers long time ago, Trailering my Race Cars...

hammy, not to take up for the guy, but for myself,I drive my hot rod all the time around home. No interior, insulation, air conditioning,(two wind wings turned out),etc....

I'm too old to be miserable on a half day trip to anywhere.

I have paid my dues over the years and can now afford to be compfortable. No, I'm not a (boy I hate to use this word)Goldchainer by any means. I just see things different today.

    Live and let live.

Thats my take on life. It's too short to bother about what others do.

    Thanks, McCray

Theres a car seat in my roadster more times then its outa my car for my 3 year old boy.So that can't be an "excuse"for trailering a car.
    To each is own.
I was prolly at the same show.I wondered if some guys remember how fun it is to go on a roadtrip and actually drive their cars, camp out with friends etc......Shiny

Some people aren't comfortable w/ having little ones in an open-topped rod. I for one would not take my 3 yr old girl on a long trip in one. Not saying that you are doing anything wrong, 29EHV8, but its a personal preference thing.

No one should trailer a running vehicle to ANY show ever. But as I've said before, it puzzles the **** out of me that the high dollar guys who spend tens of thousands on the latest suspension and creature comforts trailer their cars. If I had all that luxury it seems like I'd have even more reason to DRIVE that car. If anyone was to trailer stuff it would make more sense that it would be guys like us since the rides we build are usually kidney-busting back-breakers. BUT WE DRIVE 'EM!! It seems backards but it works for me.

If it won't make it, don't take it!

  10. There's a lot of reasons to trailer a car. Distance is one. Not for the sake of "saving" the car, but comfort. I don't find my own car as comfortable as it was when I built it, 10 or 12 years ago. I'm to the point that if it's over a few hours I don't take it, or if I owned a trailer, it would be on it, then I figure why take it. If I want to include my Dad who's 70+, and have my car at an event, it'll be trailered. My car is a fenderless 26 Ford Roadster. My option for long distance driving is to build a bigger car, proably a closed car. [IMG] Dean

There is a really long locked thread about this Trailered Cars ****! in the archive. I have to agree with stude here and what bobbleed says in the linked thread...

"It would be cool for the trip to revolve around driving the car to California, but that isn't the point. I want to spend as much time with my friends out there as possible."

Now if the guy is trailering a non-project/non-broken car to an event 20 miles away...yep homo for sure.

The bottom line is that it doesn,t matter what they are, they are still just a car,and cars are meant to be driven!!
To me half the fun is getting there not sitting in a chair in some parking lot.

Am I on the right message board? Was the board taken over by chainers without my knowledge?

I've learned in the past few years how much fun driving them to events can be.
I had trailered both my truck and coupe a few times to shows of about 300 miles or so..
    I've since started driving them..
Hell ya it's more fun, and gives ya a lot more to remember about these trips..
But, i can honestly say that if i had to take the truck on a trip that was more than 300-400 miles in a day, i couldn't physically do it..it's just wayyy to uncomfortable.
Chopped 4" and channeled 9" with a reversed firewall...Anybody who has seen it, or sat in it can understand what i'm saying.

I guess for *me*, it just depends on how far i'm going in one day, or constant without stopping..
I'm sure i'm not the only one with this situation..

But, if i think my back can handle it, it's four wheels on the road and the sound of the pipes in my ears!! [IMG]

who gives a **** if he trailored it or not, im pretty sure your talking about the modified style roadster with the polar bear style interior. I wouldnt drive that thing to the show if i was far away, maybe if i was twenty miles away or so. Hey, as long as your driving your car, who gives a ****! Just my 2 cents Nate

    Jesus-Christ-in-the-mountains Hammy...

I guess were going to start beatin' this old dead horse. [IMG]

I'd rather drive my car, it's more fun. As a matter of fact, it's never been on a trailer. However, there are good reasons in my opinion to use a trailer (most of which have been mentioned earlier). I'd like to give an example of my favorite reason to trailer a car:

We just got back from a 400 mile trip last week. I drove my A coupe, and my brother drove his roadster (The F-Bomb). It was an alright trip and nothing major went wrong, and as every trip before, I was in better shape than he was when we got there. A roadster beats the **** out of you long distance. He has proven that it can be driven long distance (more than once) to the only person that matters: HIMSELF. If he or anyone else elects to use the trailer... who am I to say anything???? No one. So I don't.

So that being said, what is my favorite reason to trailer a car? My brother says:

"If they don't like it, ****-EM, ****-EM with a big rubber ****!" "It's my car, and I'll do whatever I want with it"

hammy, It was nice to meet you and your family Saturday. I noticed the trailers at the motel across the street when I left. Don't know which cars came in them, sure don't care, I was just real happy to see the field and parking lot full. If someone takes the time to drive or trailer a car for others to admire or take ideas from that is fine with me.

If there was ever a group of cars that SHOULD be trailered, it's rat rods.....true...a few are roadworthy, but the majority are rolling s****. [IMG]

  26. The guy had an enclosed trialer? Sounds like he has a show car not a hot rod.

I trailered the 999 car to Columbus this year (behind my 48) It ****ed!! Trailering that far (400 miles) is stressful. It rained like a sum ***** and we had to pull over cause it was getting squirrelly. Got a ticket for a non ispected trailer (borrowed) Had to deal with narrow lanes in consruction zones (all of PA) Will not be doing that again anytime soon.

We trailered it cause it has no tags or exhaust and it really hasn't been driven on the street yet. Lots of time on the dirt track but little on the street. Plus I thaught it would look cool behind the 48.

I've always built my cars to drive and always will. It's more fun that way. Hell..I would have drove my old RPU across the country without thinking twice. The 48 has been across country and been to Florida several times. I think I've put close to 200,000 miles on it.

If you buy a car from Roothawg, there is a good chance it will have to be trailered. [IMG] [IMG]
