slightly O/t can anyone id the tow truck

Was watching a video of an english cop show from the 70's called The sweeney and saw this tow truck and couldnt figure out what it was it looks like a US ford any ideas?

Looks like a cut down 58 Fairlane to me.



But what the hell do I know?

Very much more likely to be a cut down 4 door or a wagon rather than a pukka ranchero. A few such cars were converted in such a way when they were cheap bangers and used by scrap yards.
If anyone is interested the other main players were a blue ford transit van, a ford consul or granada and an austin princess.

Mk1 Transits are cool.
I had one but it was rusty ( are there any left?)

I kept looking at the Anglia parked in the Background ( had one of those as well, but was dumb enough to let it go...)

The Princess was only good to rob the front brakes off...

The Front shocks on my '28 Roadster are off one of those Granada's.

 

only one thing uglier than an austin princess... The Allego especially the van dem plas edition!!!

 

Looks like it might have been a 58 Ford Ranchero or Ranch Wagon with a different pickup box grafted on (there are no fins or stock tail lights) - rear window and bulkhead are also not stock. Definitely a 58 Ford front clip though.

 

What I wanna know is why they just didn't open the van doors?
