    that's **** but you'll pull it out!

    what about garage with JJ.....

  2. Hey Jim-
I know you don't know me, but I worked at McMullen/Argus, which became "K-III Magazines" then "Primordial Publications" for the better part of 4 years, on a magazine that, due to the type of car, I probably better not mention here. Used to visit with Brennan, Rizzo, Fortier, Cole, all the usual suspects, before they moved out of the 774 building into the Hundley Building...
I could see that it was only a matter of time, before the Bean Counters in NYC figured out that it was costing 8 beans to put the magazine out, and they were only getting 7-1/2 beans back... I went to work for a compe***or's magazine, about a year before my prediction came true..You have talent, my man, and somebody, somewhere, is going to recognize that, and snap you up.

    i'll be watching Primedia,

Let them start to look like anything from Buckaroo and i'm gone..

Ive read R&C since the little pages, through all the fad's ,Go-Karts you name it.
You and RC Lee have done much for them .

Maybe if they stopped putting those dammed subscription cards in there
they could have easily afforded you, even given you a raise....

    Life just isnt fair

Let's not jump to conclusions about Primedia just yet, otherwise KIRK! and RF will be out on the street being a parasites on the gov't teat. ;)

Jim, I hope the stuff in the works holds out for you. Don't jinx it by telling anyone, I did and that London gig deflated on me (they still don't know WTF they are going to do) and I'm in limbo. Keep your chin up, one door closes and another opens. Best of luck!

KIRK!'s safe; he doesn't have reigns surgically attached to his jawbone that are being pulled from NYC. He's "Good," he's no teat-****er (quite the opposite).

Jim, it'll be quiet w/o you around here. Wait, it was quiet before--you were never here!

****!! I hate bean counter decisions. I’ve been reading Arin Cee longer than I’d care to remember and I think you and people like Kirk have gotten them back on the right track. Let’s hope they keep it going that way. I’ve envied you, being in a business that keeps you in the main stream of what most of us would love to do full time. It never entered my mind that you would have to deal with the same **** that goes on in the rest of the “MegaCorps”. Jim, you have a real talent and it won’t go to waste, you’ll do well.

    JimA,
I'm sorry to hear that you won't be at R&C anymore. I've always enjoyed your writing and your photography is much better than mine. That's their loss. The bean counters have won this round. I like your at***ude as this shows the quality person that you are. One door closed and the other opportunities await.

Please keep us informed where you are going to be so, we can follow you with our interests, care and $$$. I don't mean to sound cr*** about the $$$ part, but whatever publication you end up writing for, we HAMBers will spend the money to buy it so we can read your stuff.

You could cover the GG Scottsdale show as a free-lancer and sell the written coverage and photos to somebody. Just a suggestion.

Jim, you'll land on your feet ...and keep rite on going...the money guys at Primedia far outweigh the people actually working to make a mag better...and that's always the way it's been in corporate America...

Primedia's slogan used to be "The largest targeted media in the industry..." now I believe it is the "the largest target in the industry."

    Good Luck...

You're good at what you do Jim, and you've got good energy -- so maybe it's time to work on that screenplay? Or that hot rod history book? Or maybe just kick back for awhile and build another cool rpu, huh?

Give me a holler if you're up this way.

Keep repeating this old adage to yourself: "When one door closes, another door opens. When one door closes, another door opens. When one door closes, another door opens................."

This explains why I haven't heard much from you, Jim. No doubt your skills and imagination will take you to the place you belong. When the dust settles maybe we can get back to work on your project.

    Best, Pete

    Ouch!

I subscribed to R&C because of their HAMB-type content that was your doing.
I am sad to hear of you leaving, but I have best wishes for your future!

    Keep up the good stuff!!!

    regards,

Yes Pete, it's been a little bumpy, but it just makes it that much clearer on what's important and that's a VERY good thing- so much so I was thinking of sending a couple "thank you" notes to certain individuals after cleaning out my office today. All the people I worked with on the editorial side were more than gracious because we really are family. Took me to lunch and gave me all their deepest well wishes and we will be working together in some capacity in the future. It's all good, I'm just not in the company corral any more.

I wasn't fired, my position was ELIMINATED. They won't be hiring anyone soon. But he could do a tech story on that SWEET *** electric fan installation on his jalopy- I'll send you Ol' Skoolz number! ;)

Look at it this way, for the next short while you're not one of the "hated magazine guys".:) You don't have to bear the brunt of any car in any magazine that has the wrong wheels, or 60's this that doesn't go with a 50's that. You can just be a regular guy on the HAMB. Of course, that doesn't pay very well.

And this is no excuse to miss the Roundup next year.

Trying to make you laugh back- it wasn't a slap. There was a truck that looked a lot like yours with this crazy electric fan on the FRONT of the radiator at the Throttlers picnic- I thought it was a last minute deal and I wanted to rib you about it. I even looked around for you. It's all good homie- I get the jokes.

I'm sure you'll do even better wherever you land and you'll be around long after the magazines go belly-up.

Hope to run into you at a show or press conference somewhere soon.

Holler if there's anything I can do!
