I just got my drive shaft back from the drive shaft dude. My measurments were a little off and with the new shaft installed, the yolk sticks out Exactly 1 1/2 inches. There is about 4+ inches of yolk inside the trans. Should I worry about this? It is installed in my 1930 Model A with a 330HP small block and a TCI TH350. PLEASE HELP...... Yunnie
Yep , you run that the sun won't rise tomorrow !! LOL If you have 4+" in the trans I don't see a problem.
I think you'll be fine with that much in the trans. I like to see a minimum of .250 sticking out and .750 ain't bad. An 1 1/2 Is a bit much but I don't think its out of the question for your H.P.
Thanks guys. I plan to run the car for a few months to shake the bugs out of it and then when the new England weather comes it will be torn down to be painted. At that time I will decide weather to replace the drive shaft. Yunnie
What rear end? Some, like a 9 inch have different length yokes and you could swap that to get the front yoke in to a safer location.
if running a turbo 350 or proabbly a powerglide you can get longer yokes from Speedwat Motors did that on my 1953 chev and got more stuck in the splines, bought a longer one and cut it to fit which could take a lathe with a big gap behind the jaws[thank a friend on my part]
I double checked, there is only 3 inches inside the trans. I might have to go see the drive shaft dude again...............
You're fine- dont mess with it- heavy duty 4x4 guys and car shops want 1 inch from bottoming out- you've got 1.5 inches, and 3more inside the tail?- you'll kill that 8 inch rear before you wreck a yoke just because of .5 inches less spline engagement- dont sweat it... rick
