So were sitting around a local cruise night at the ice cream shop one sunday night bored outta our minds and fellow club member george says to brian and I " hey lets build a car for the pileup" our reply was " but we have less then 5 weeks. Well why not try. SO the following day i start hunting for a body and stumbled across a solid 34 ford truck cab(minus the doors) which we chopped 6". We pulled the drivetrain out of our doner car (87 caprice wagon w/ a olds 307). Brian had a rolling chassis from his 29 model a sedan. We pulled the front end and rear leaf spring off of it and they decided to build a new frame from scratch. I picked up some 2x4 square steel for the frame and brian started to lay out chalk lines on the ground to figure out where the rails were going to go. The total time was 27 days, most of which were at night after work. every motor mount bracket, rear end brackets (which were made twice because they changed there design), steering, transmission, headlights, gas tank mounts were all made from scratch. We scrapped together all the parts need, some donated from freinds and made it happen. Those two are very talented and what they do and I was very inpressed by the outcome. They cruised around the neighbor hood for the first time the night before the pileup and the maiden vayage was 70 miles to the show. It didnt skip a beat.

here are some pics from the build in no particular order.

    What he said.......
At least you found some doors to use...they are about the hardest part of these trucks to find.

I like the way you layed the side rails so the fat part was up instead of putting them "upright" .... it's something different i like it...makes it unique (well the whole frame is unique)

The guy we bought the cab from had a lead on a set of doors that were ruff but they worked out, and when we went to get them the guy happened to have a corvair steering box we needed. so it worked out okay.

Nicely done! 27 days, low budget, way cool. Now go park it next to a 30K pickup and see who gets the attention. Way to go!

Thanks for the compliments, i guess when you put your mind to it, it gets done. I think when you put a deadline on building a car, you keep focused and dont lose interest.
