I'm building a slot car for the slots of doom.Whenever it is.And there are a bunch of tiny spacers and shims and set screws that I don't know where they go.The kit I have didn't come with instructions.Anyone that can give me some clue would be appreciated. Also don't know which side of rear axle the gear goes on so I don't run backwards, same with the wires to the brushes. Thanks Dan
Oh man its been a while, but i believe the gear and pinion go on the right side of the axle. What do the shims look like? metal, br***, plastic?show me a picture and i can tell you where everything goes. I use to be heavy into this stuff as a kid.
The ring gear goes to right of pinion. the red wire goes to right side of guide. There should be some shims to go on guide. The guide needs to be shimed so the tires are within .005 or less but tires should not lift brushes off track. Allso its a good idea to solder fr. axle to frame, then you can bend axle to set tire hight. All the set screws are for tires and gears and shims and spacers are for tires. Moter should be soldered in and screws removed.
Man this brings back memories. I loved my old slot tracks when I was a kid. I used to have Cale Yarborough and Richard Petty slot cars. I had the General Lee (hate to admit it but...) and quite a few other misc cars and a couple of motorcycles. I wonder if my mom might have those stashed away somewhere in a closet. I will have to ask her about it sometime. One of my favorite things to do back then was to put a little oil on the track and watch them do burnouts till the tires flew off the car. Was not real good on the track, but fun.
I have a small 4lane (5'x12') in my garage and am going to build a 12'x16' L shaped figer8 shortly. I had my neighbor over racin and he is now buying a 9'x20' try ovel. There allso is a place in Fremount Nebr that has 4 large tracks were we go race. These things are a blast and fairly cheep to. I would like to get a HAMB getogethere this summer for hotdogs hambergers and slots. We would have 3 diffrent tracks to run on and I do have some spare cars but not enough. I could get some cars and stuff here for sale I think. would anyone like to try this? it could be slots of fun
