small battery for model A

i need a small battery appx. 5 1/2 inchs wide , how long and high is flexible, ive only gor 6 1/2 inches clearence between frame and body, fender well, or if some one has a pic of a better loc. in a tudor sedan i'm going nuts trying to fins a battery that will fit, also sent back 2 battery trays to summit that they web catalog says is 5 in. wide and when i get them they are 7 1/4 wide.... thanks guys....

battery is 9.5" long 7" wide 6.75" hight to the top of the post..i think its a group 60? battery

the box i think i got out of summit..or speedway..

tray measures 11" long, 7.5" wide, 6.75" tall.

I like the fact that i can grab another lead acid battery, and be on my way if this one dies..making it simple helps in the long run
all these special batteries and difficult locations and ones only designed for upsidedown or sideways gel batteries limits you

 

Put mine under the cowl. You could put it under the floor. I believe I have seen mounts for them.

The battery for a Honda civic is small and I used one for my 37 Chevy p/u after installing the T-5 with the original E brake handle attached to the side which cut into the room for the original sized battery,I think its a group 51 size battery.

 

Mine is on the pasenger side. Looks like you might have room over there if nothing else is planned for it. There was a thread on here where guys were getting these out of the jumper boxes for less than buying them new.

 

I beleve mine is a PC680, it has been a while since I bought it. The specs of it and others are below:

I'm with vonn rigg, figure out a way to use a conventional battery that you can get at the corner

Shop for prices because they vary from these links. They ain't cheap but if you only got 5.5" for a battery something has to give right?

PC 925 has 925cca for 5 seconds, 870 /10 & 760/20 seconds - measures 7x7x5 and can be mounted any position

I'd think that's more than enough to fire any tuned street engine.

 

I used a PC680 mounted on its side in my phaeton. Laid it under the floor on the p***enger side. front. Hasn't let me down and it is in its 4th year. If your motor won;t start with one of these then it needs a serious tuneup. If you search this site I beleive you will find threads with people saying they started their blown big blocks in hot waether with one of these.

 

I will try and post pics later. I bought the weld in battery box from Speedway. I am running a Optima Battery laid on its side. It is mounted between the p***anger frame rail and the drive shaft, welded to my transmission crossmember. Terminals are facing towards the front of the car. Once in and hooked up I fogged black spray paint on the battery which helped hide it better.

The battery in my "54 Plymouth is an Exide Nascar Extreme, group 51, 9 3/8" long, 4 5/8' wide, 8 1/2" high to the top of the posts, 510 CCA, 610 CA, cost about $90.00. It starts my 405" Chev with no problem. Bob

 

I use a civic size battery under the floor in my GMC. it cranks a SBC just fine and is about 5 - 5 1/2" wide, a little over 9" long and to clear the top posts you'll need 9"+ high

Building a custom battery box is no challenge. There easy to do and takes only a couple of hours at most and a welder and torch is all I use to do it.The hold down you can make or buy the hardware from any parts house. Find your space where you want it then go to your parts house and speck out a battery then build the box to fit it. I always stay within old style batterys for American cars since there more avalible but thats up to you.

yeah. i went through the same thing. needed a small battery. the group 51 battery goes in honda crv's and civic's. they are small. most parts store have them....Advanced Auto, AutoZone, O-Rielly's, Napa.

its basically the smallest regular battery with the most cold cranking amps you can find.
