Any one know what "short" oil filter fits a small block.

I use a spin on oil filter adapter so I added about an inch to the filter length and it was close but fine. Well since I lowered my wagon I managed to bang the headers a few times, pushing one tube against the bottom corner of a standard size (Fram PH13). Of course I didnt realize this until the header rubbed a hole in the side of the filter in a nasty highway smoke screen incident.

I remember running a shorter possibly V6 filter on tight header builds in the past, anyone know what year make fits?

I don't remember the part number, but the really short one I use is for the Chevy truck Vortec 454, late 90's, early 2000's.

The AC Delco PF-25 (discontinued) was replaced by PF-454. They are short spin on filters for 1958-1980 Chevrolet engines.

Use Fram PH30, TG30, XG30, and DG 30 if you want a Fram short filter for a Chevrolet.

The Fram PH13 is a long filter.

As mentioned the ph13 is the 1 quart filter. Pretty much every small chevy passenger car application in your parts store's book is going to be the half quart filter.

Fram filters are crap. You're buying the advertising, which is a poor substitute for a quality filter.

    good luck

The shortest spin-on oil filter adapter I've found for my '57 283 is the Perma-Cool PRM-1134, available from Summit Racing at about $13.00. I use Wix #51069 filters with that adapter. The FOGGER

WIX 51069 and NAPA Gold 1069 filters are the same. They are highly rated and are the third best filters and both will filter particles down to 19 microns. The best long life filter is the AC Delco UltraGuard Gold filter but it is only avalilabe in UPF47 and UPF52, and none are made for a SB Chevy engine. The two AC Delco UltraGuard Gold filters have a all synthetic media and a high flow rate. They filter 98% of the particles as small as 8 microns. Most other filters will filter down to 24 microns, AC Delco Duraguard PF454 included.

The best short spin on filter for a SB block Chevy is Mobil 1 M1-202. It has a synthetic / cellulose (paper) media capable of filtering down to 10 microns. It is the Mobil 1 version of the AC Delco Duraguard PF-25 and PF-454 short filters.

The filter to use for your SB Chevy is the Mobil 1 M1-202 (short) but it will soon be replaced by M1-111 (short) . They are the same filters except for the part number. Mobil 1 filters are second only to the AC Delco UltraGuard Gold UPF47 and UPF52 short filters. NAPA has recently started stocking Mobil 1 filters but check first. The AC Delco Ultraguard Gold filters each cost $21 MSRP. GM is really proud of those filters.

In closing: Mobil 1 filters and AC Delco UltraGurad Gold filters are made by Champion Labs. Unfortunately, Champion Labs does not have any plans to expand the AC Delco UltraGuard Gold line of filters. Apparently because of their retail cost.

Watch NAPA for weekend sales. I bought 8 of the NAPA Gold 1069s for the price of 4 a few weeks ago on a Saturday/Sunday 2 for 1 sale for about 4 bucks a piece.

  16. I wouldnt put a FRAM Filter on my Lawn mower
I would rather use a Roll of Toilet Paper
They are the Biggest Piece of CRAP on the Market
Wix is the Best for all Cars which make Napa Filters
    just my 3 cents

The adaptor on my small block takes a Ford/Mopar filter. I have used a Wallymart SuperTech filter # ST43 which is the same as a Fram PH43, AC PF20 and STP S16. I recently put on a Napa Gold 1068, but that was a bit longer and I barely got it on there.
