i have a zz4 chev small block, with aluminum center bolt heads. i want to use 1963 corvette valve covers using the adapter thats available from various companies. i also want to use a dual quad intake. my question is how would i mount an oil fill without going thru the valve covers. i know i can install a moon style breather on the side of the covers, but not sure about oil fill tube. any idea's ?
You could use an original chev 2x4 intake...they had the filler tube. Or if you're using a new aftermarket intake, they usually have a boss cast in where the fill tube would go. I drilled a hole in my Performer RPM for a fill tube...a little JB weld and stick it in!
If you really don't want a fill tube or a valve cover cap you can leave them all out and fill the oil by removing a valve cover or pulling the distributor out. Oil can be added through the head's drainback holes or through the dist. hole. A pain in the *** but you can do it that way.
Reguardless of what intake or valve covers you still need a breather for the crank case. I like snap daddy's idead
I add oil by removing the top of the moon style breather on mine, they are however mounted on the front of the valve covers rather than the sides or you can as previously stated put a breather/filler tube in your intake if it has a provision for it
Yes you definitely need the breathers. In my situation I have the breathers hooked up to a pan-evac system that runs to the collectors. I just pull a breather and fill that way. On my other car I'm using an old pair of "burn down" breathers for crank case ventilation. They are bolted on, so I pull a valvecover to add oil. I should add a cap but I hate how they look. -Scott
