A small nailhead engine happened to fall into my hands this afternoon... Can't find proper reference to the casting numbers. If you can lend a hand it would be appreciated!

    Block number
    1165752
    Head number
    116349-4 passenger side
    1166349-9 drivers side
    Four barrel intake
    1343616
    Drivers side exhaust
    1345465-2
The engine has a cast crank pulley which leads me to believe it is a 264" just not positive intake bolts measure 8 1/4" across. Thank you in advance! Joel

Ok so I can't find the correct numbers... I think I have narrowed it do n to a 1953 264" engine with a 322" intake manifold.

The only number that I can match up is the head 1166349, According to my info this indicates 1954 to 1956 322 or 264. Apparently the same head was used on both engines 8 3/8 inches across the intake bolts indicates 264 or 322

It's kind of like playing a puzzle game! I believe it to be a 264 only because of the one piece cast crank pulley. I saw on the above linked website, the 1954 engine had a two piece pulley. The numbers NEVER match

Pull a head and measure the bore. 264 is 3 5/8th's and 322 is 4" Only way I know to be sure.

  6. My info indicates that its a 53-56 263.3 c. I. Block and heads.

If its a 264 it has to be a 54 or 55. All 53 v8s were 322's and all 56s were 322s. The 54 and 55 Special series were the only ones that 264s came in.

    I don't believe 264's came with 4 barrels. Every one I've ever seen had a 2 barrel.

You are correct about OEM equipment....but it would be an easy manifold to swap ....
