Here is a little project I have been thinking about doing for a while now. I finally got sick of my spare tire sitting above my bed side in the 1963 dodge so a buddy and I decided to do something different with it. We had a trunk floor section from an old merc laying around and decided to use the spare tire well from it inside the bed. Here are some pics. I think it turned out great. Now I can get a tonneau cover made for the truck!
Thanks. We didn't brace it. We used the original lip around the wheelwell and spot welded it in as if it was in the trunk still. There was a brace under the bed we cut through, but we welded that straight to the wheelwell. There shouldn't be any loss of strenght at all. Now I just have to make a mount to keep the wheel from moving. Though it can't really move all too much. I am very happy with how it worked out.
