Okay, here it is.... <img src=http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid91/p71fd9b9458e703d6fca7d990017a587c/fa6222f6.jpg> The new Hackmobile as it sat in RocketJ2's driveway prior to loading it up on the trailer last Saturday morning. Note genuine Virginia/Michigan patina and real, authentic SNOW on the ground! (a 49 Chevy fastback for those keeping track at home!! ) Plans call for a slightly more modern inliner, auto tranny, 10-bolt rear, front disc conversion, 12 volt system, and a whole lotta miles this Summer! Hope to drive it to Billetproof Michigan in early June...lotta work to do before then! Thanks again, Jay!
My very first car was a 49 fastback with a 327 stuffed into it. Guy gave it to me for free! That was in 1982. Day before he was supposed to sign the title over to me the local cops shot and killed him. He was running his '55 chevy HARD and wouldn't stop for them! He out ran everything they threw at him except a radio and a few.357 slugs, 4 in him and 10 more in the car. He was a bad ass mofo...now he's a dead bad ass mofo.
i like it,but i don't think you gotta chop it.i always thought it was hard to improve the lines on a fastback, just drop'em a little and shave some of the chrome.so hack, you got a donor vehicle lined up for this yet or are ya still driving it?
Good goin, Hack. I love a fleetline. I found one at my wife's Uncle's place up in farm country last summer but I already have plwnty of projects. I like your plans for it. Sounds about what I'd do. I'd have to step up to the 7-main bearing engine, either a 250 or a 292. Photo of "uncle Bob's" 49 parked in the tall grass...rusting away.
Man, that's like posting pic's of an ex girlfriend! Looks good in the pics, tho! Hope you enjoy it... I like hatch's rendition btw. Jay

you know,it always amazes me how most late 40's early 50's cars look so much kooler lowered with skirts.that car would look killer the way you chopped it fathack, you should do that.
hey hack, is that the car that the corner of your house had the altercation with? looks good, i've always had a soft spot for 49 to 54 chevys. we had two donated to automechanics class when i was in high school.
[ QUOTE ] I want everything you can see on the outside to look like a kid's ride out of the mid 60s, but with the 'modern' 250 and a TH350 tranny, 10-bolt rear, discs up front, alternator, etc. Just a reliable cruiser that I can drive anywhere and everywhere! [/ QUOTE ] Yes, it's official, you're my hero. This is my plan for virtually any fifties car that falls into my clutches - no customs for me! Just style and power, thank you.
Hey,Hack, seems like you really like that view from the back seat, yuz and your X wasnt trying it on for size was ya? Always had a soft spot for the old fifties chevys, think it was on my head and it feels like its still there! I my self like the 53 and 54 cars, dont know why, they are a square box,but a cool box.I think this is just what you needed. My ideals for this would be to keep it simple, sure it would look great chopped, ect, but that takes a lot of work or money.I think I would do a good late model drivetrain,I knew I could depend on for lots of trouble free driven, then do some smoothing up on the body, dechrome a few things ect, 50s or 60s style wheels and get that sucker out and meet some of us car nuts in person, and have some fun with it.Like it!
