So as a parts delivery specialist I get to travel around to garage to garage and occasionally see some cool projects and shoot the shit with fellow gear heads. On one of my adventures I followed up on a rumor of a 54 Chevy pick up that was shoved down in a loading dock to rot away. To my surprise it was true and the shop owner wanted it gone.....BAD... With cash in hand I slung the green and the deal was struck. 500 bones. So now I ask you is this story a score or a bore??? down in it's hole behind an old grain truck in my yard aftermarket rear suspension set up with a dana? (not rear end savy) I have the hood in the garage and everything is pretty solid. I'm not 100% sure I dig the chop and how I would score glass for the corner windows but for 500 bones with a title. I think it was worth dragging it home.
hmm.. I have a line on a '49 short bed cheap, 'was gunna pass but now I'll have to rethink... yours is a bit too chopped and a bit too low low for me but I think you did ok
Score for sure - rear end looks as if it may be a Ford 8.8" (Mustang, Explorer) - should be plenty strong.
Score! If you level up the bed,and get the suspension up a couple of inches, the chop will just look sinister. If I had found that,I would have jumped on it.
I also say score, although it looks like the truck was destined for airbags in the original artist's mind, it could still be done a number of different ways. As far as scoring glass, if you make cardboard templates of EXACTLY what you need, Safelite can make them out of safety glass. I have not had them make any tempered stuff yet, but with a phone call, you could certainly find out. I got lucky and have one nearby, the place they sent my stuff to be "manufactured" was in Tennessee. Good luck, no matter which way you go with the project.
That's a great buy for $500!! The rear does look like it's from GM "A" body. Now if it's a 12 bolt... Is it a GMC or a Chevy? I say go with the GMC to stand out a little.
The bed kinda looks cool set up like a tail drager.....uuuuummmm This ride could be the start of something buteefull...
I would have checked to see if he would have taken $300..........buying glass for that will be a bit of a challenge.....but, good score.......did he have anymore stuff "laying around".......aka: intakes or heads or hop up parts.
Negative Ghost Rider The Pattern Is Full. This is one of those used car fix um up and sell um type of places. Most everything they have is garbage to sell to garbage.
good find i deliverd parts for the dealership i work at then they moved me on the counter . i never bought any cars but man did i score some good parts cheap i miss them days i still get out some but not too much now i loved riding around getting paid to look for junk and talking cars we go to some pretty rural areas so i spotted some good tin , good score
Nice, and I dig the chop. Since you're starying with a nice clean slate I'd go ahead and bag it. Not too popular around here but, I like those particular trucks realy low. What front suspention? Oh yeah, SCORE!!!!!
buddy of mine has one like that.. I'm pretty sure for the corner windows he used some cardboard and ducttape and a sandblaster to get them the right size..I'll ask him when I see him tomorrow.. he might even have a set of lexan corners to if I remember right ,they were given to him..
Nice score. If the glass guy hits you too stiff on the quarter windows I'd just fill them in and make it a three window. Looks like about a five inch chop and a good start on a cruiser.
Sure looks like it was worth $500 to me. Looks like the 12 bolt I put in the 50' Chevy shortbed I am building for my wife. Rear end in good condition cost me 300 and I am sure the chop on that truck if it is straight would cost over a grand. The sheet metal looks pretty clean, I would say you got a heck of a deal. Just so happens I have 2 sets of 5 window cab corner glass that are in good shape. If you want a set let me know. -Drew
