I suspect that there is ground movement every day here to some minor degree. I was born in 1950, didn't feel my first earthquake until 1971 (the Sylmar quake). The next ones that I really felt were 1987 (Whittier), 1991 (Sierra Madre) and the 1994 (Northridge)...so, in 58 years thats about it except for a little jolt now and then... Every region has "something". Earthquakes are our "something"... But, its home.... <table class="weatherBox" border="0"><tbody><tr><td class="weatherHead">Weather:</td><td align="center" width="10"></td><td class="weatherContent">PASADENA, CA | Now: 70ºF | High: 75ºF | Low: 57ºF</td></tr></tbody></table>
Sylmar in 71, (we lived in the San Gabriel Valley) - I was lying in bed with a glass swag lamp hanging over the bed. I thought it was pretty cool the way it was tossing about. My folks freaked out and said get in the door way. It was the first one I really remember (15 at the time) and even then didn't think it was a big deal. Northridge on the other hand did get my attention. the rest of these - eh
This earthquake is a wake up call to all newcomers since the last good jolt,so you either get accustomed to the shaking or go back to wherever you came from. The cars and oh ya...weather makes it all bearable.
Living in a buliding in downtwon long beach that was built in 29 loses a little appeal when your on the seventh floor getting shook up. Biggest one I have felt since moving to california.
Not really. At least, you can SEE a tornado coming and do something about it! Earthquakes, not so much. I was out there for the '71 quake...Experienced both, thanks! Thought it took a 5.5 for you guys to even notice! We have our tornadoes and basketball-sized hailstones, wildfires...oh, and winter ice storms, too. Fun times. You guys have earthquakes, wildfires, and flash floods. We all have our own regional fun, as mazooma pointed out. Wouldn't have it any other way
Here in Pennysltucky it felt more like the cat farted. But, kidding aside, compared to the west coast earthquakes, forest fires and the midwest's tornadoes, we have it pretty damn good here on the right coast. Hope your next one is lower on the scale.
HA! Thats what happened in my neighborhood with all the neighbors gathering at the intersection. Since we're knew to the area, we finally met our across the street neighbors. Good and long shaker here in Midcity.
