we did do this last year around the same time. so this should be the 2nd annual HAMB b-b-q. so i will give some helpful info as to what we all should now about it before its to late.

Okay then - this is firming up like good Bondo.

    OFFICIAL DATE:
Feb 13 (same day as LBC swap)

    OFFICIAL LOCATION:
ELDORADO PARK in Lakewood, CA (405/605)

    OFFICIAL TIME:
what do ya'll think? Noon? It IS a BBQ, so we should start early and get the fires going. I'm pretty sure they've got BBQ grilles there - it's been awhile since I've been there, but I distinctly remember seeing them last time I went. I hope it's not changed.

This is a cool deal. I think we'll have a great turnout and a great time again...

if you are gonna drink beer or hard liquor make sure you do it in a paper or big gulp cup and hide the empties well... every public beach or park in So. Cal. is a no booze zone, so you gotta be cool. so mix some maragaritas or jungle juice up in your plastic gas can!

    Now - some requests...

It seems we've got a handle on hot dogs (mofos), drinks (me).

We'll need some supporting cast here. Please- someone bring some other stuff, like salads and maybe even ???.

Also- we hear there's charcoal grilles/pits or something. Let's figure we have one of these to work with - we'll be needing more. If people have little portable BBQs, please bring them out. We may need them just to keep things warm (like chili or carne asada), while the charcoal is actually cooking food.

Any donation of bread products (like hot dog or hamburger buns, tortillas, etc.) would be cool for us non-Atkins dieters. If you want to eat your food from a lettuce leaf, knock yourself out. I prefer the non-Gilligan approach, thanks.

Otherwise, I think we'll be okay. I'm not seeing anyone volunteering any kind of sound system or anything...if you've got something, please bring it along. Even if your car has a good system, just pop the trunk and entertain the crowd....just bring good music and lots of it...we've got hours to kill.

Along those lines, anyone bringing frisbees, footballs, or any other kind of cheeseball picnic entertainment will be appreciated. Considering this is a HAMB deal, I'm not anticipating a huge jock-type responsive need for sports equipment. I'm thinking most smokers are good for 1-2 hrs. of physical "fun", then we'd rather eat and chase skirts and talk about old cars.

so what do you all think? [IMG]

I hate when people start spouting out days. If that's the day you want it to be, then stick with it. If agree that Valentine's weekend would be a hard sell for the little ladies, then move it a week or two one way or the other. But above all, YOU set the date and don't budge. If you don't, this post'll go 4 pages and you'll have the date move all over the callendar. [IMG]

Valentines Day (as we know it) was invented by Hallmark Cards and See's Candy.
It's on 'the 14th of February.
It's not the whole ****ing WEEKEND!
If you let it be the whole weekend, for one thing, you're one snip from being a lesbian, and pretty soon it will be St. ****ing Valentines WEEK!

Keep it the 13th..it's a lucky number for most of my "friends".. [IMG]

thats the day that was selected in a previous post. so i went with it.

lets take a poll. the day that gets the most votes will be the actual day.

    alright, here are the specifics:
Feb 13: yes, its the day before valentines. it is also the date of the LBC swap.

Feb 20: there are not any other car shows or meets that i know of.

Feb 13th is perfect. Valentines day is on Sunday the 14th.

I'll be hapy to bring something... but we should have some sorta headcount so that we know how much to bring.

BTW: I have a 1 yr old that may need to come along. Is this a kid freindly event? Feel like a **** for asking but I hate when people bring their kids to an adult oriented event... so I thought I'd ask.

I love children, but few people know how to prepare them properly... [IMG]

I have no trouble telling the "squeelers" to shut up.

As long as that's ok I don't mind kids, hell I'm still a kid, emotionally.
I just wish I bounced like I did when I was a kid! [IMG] [IMG]

just to remind everyone, both dates fall on a sunday.

as far as kids are concerned, i dont see why not.

just dont let the kids near Donnie "that old grouch" [IMG]
he might confuse them for carne asada.

im thinking the poll will end on Fri night, Jan 28th.

Who cares about Valentines Day?! Just another way for Hallmark, See's, flower shops and jewlers to make some extra money so they can get richer. Being that the proposed date is the same as the LB Swap Meet, people could go to the swap meet and drive over to the park, seeing as both are in Long Beach. Just a thought . . .

Who am I? Well I'm recent college graduate who is fast discovering how horrible the adult world really is, and yearns for the days when I could play in the sand box and not have a damn worry in my little head.
Actually, I'm not bitter at all, rather I'm bothered by the fact that society has designated one day when everyone is expected to go out of their way to show the one they love how much they love them. I would rather take some random day, when the one I love isn't expecting anything to surprise her. I'm all for romance and love and showing your significant other how much you care, but am opposed to it when society is telling everyone that on Feb. 14, we are all supposed to do so.

thanks to the guy who are willing to help. everyone can help by bringing something to eat or drink to share with everyone. lets leave the potatoe chips at the store. you can bring some but don't make that the only thing. cause everyone always brings chips. we'll be left with a bunch of bags left over.

come on guys! with all the peolpe from the HAMB that live in so-cal. we should have about 4 pages of people attending.

lets try to make this an Annual event. we are going on the 2nd annual. as things get better so will the places and better planning will be done.

so lets make a list of whos bringing what. so we all don't bring the same stuff.

    thanks

the 13th seems to be the date huh?

most people end up leaving the Vet's swap by noon, so the BBQ should be all warmed up by then.

We'll be bringin 30 or so Hot Dogs to BBQ for anyone who wants one (or five)

Sounds like a good time. I'll be there with the wife and kids in the wifes car. I'll bring a bunch of skewers cause they taste good, paper towels so we don't use our sleeves in front of the significant others, and some charcoal in case the fire goes out. Joe
