So... Can a Fiberglass T-Bucket that's 40 years old get some respect??

I have been re-offered a T-bucket that was built in the late 60's or early 70's. It is typical of the period with blue speedboat metal flake and flames, wire spoke front wheels and 15X15 magnesium American's out back, SBC and chromed everything but it is looking a little worn just about everywhere. It has two plaques on it where it was shown in Merced California in the "Western Nationals" in 1976 and 1978. I don't want to post pics yet to have the image of the car itself answer the question. But the question is.... when does a car have enough history, time on this earth and "age of build" to be "accepted" as a true vintage rod even though it is gl***?? Or will they ever??

I'm probably going to buy the car on Monday regardless of what people say in this post, but as I was looking at the car I just got to wondering about this question.

Here is mine I trader for 3 years ago. Built in 1962 and repainted around 1976 best I and figure, been chasing the history in Indy where everybody said it was built, and I've come to a dead end for now. Ben thinking about asking the pros here on the HAMB if anybody might know some history on it.

What makes old cars cool is the history. That car has history.

    I dunno...

Not tryin to be mean or anything, but I have seen plenty of old cars that are ugly as hell. Just because they were built so long ago doesn't automatically make em cool.

I just can't answer without pics. Sorry.

A one off, owner built Gl*** T that is 40+ years old would be ok with me. The T "Kit Car" is another story. Have fun with it, and post some photos

Buy it. Most of the people giving you **** will be sitting around with one hand on the keyboard and the other on their ****, wishing they had a hot rod to drive.

The same can be said for some ****boxes that have been built as recently as this year. Build or buy whatever makes your ******s hard. If others don't like it, tough poop!!

Merced Western Nationals... I know I was there in 81. got a Motate to Merced sticker on my toolbox to prove it. not sure about 78. prolly missed 76.

as for the T... could be hideous, could be extra cool. in the end the only one you need to impress is yourself.

I don't see buckets as much different than any other vintage car getting respect on here. Almost every make and model has good representation and bad representation. If it is a cool car, it will stand on it's own no matter what others think. Do what you like and don't look back.

And yeah, regarding the old pics above, a T can be plenty cool and vintage too.

Seriously a fibergl*** car can be kool but you have try a lot harder. Big Daddy Roth did it. It all depends on what else is on the car. If the builder bought all aftermarket stuff it probably won't be too kool but that holds for steel rods too. A steel body and 1-800 doesn't make a kool kar. If your fibergl*** T has a lot of jenny parts It could be kool.

It's an old car . I don't care what it's made of , if it's cool , it's cool. It's kind of funny that repops are antiques now.

My question wasn't centered on only this car. It's just that this car is what made me think of it. I see things like Excalibre's getting tons of respect as well as early Cord replicas and others. So why not antique T-buckets?

Here is a couple of pics of this one. I posted them last year when I was first offered the car because I want those wheels BAD. I'll be picking it up on Monday and I'll take some better pics then.

  23. These cars should be treated with the utmost respect. For any of them to have made it this far in one piece is a testament to the build. Back in the day these were considered "entry level" hotrods. They were what you threw together to join your friends at the burger joint while you were saving up funds for the 32 roadster you had laying in pieces in your garage.
Any complete and unchanged early t-bucket should be regarded with the same respect we give that other ford. Without them this hobby we enjoy wouldn't be as big or as colorful.
Sidenote: Best term to describe a T-bucket?

This pisses me off, I found an old 60's altered in a barn (that was gl***) and I got a whole bunch of ***holes telling me it was nothing special when I posted it. I say you found a REAL piece of american history, Get the SOB and raise some hell. The funny part is, most of the guys who will tell you its not cool are the one who have never had the joy of finding one on there own.

I don't care about flack. Let er' rip if you want. I've been collecting parts for a 26 Steel "T" build and just scored some wheels and tires for it today! My car tastes are all over the map and I'm sure I have or had or will have something that vertually everyone would like. I've learned that no matter what you own or drive there are people that don't like it and I'm fine with that. Here are my new wheels!
