I once heard a great saying from an Indian mate reguarding Karma, Have you ever been cosmicly ***** slapped by a six armed godess? That fiddy five owner has.....
Revenge is sweet. I'm sure the guy in the kit car was pissed to find that I extended his power parking end spot. I've always laughed at the power parking wars. I'm sure he blamed me for not getting his picture in all the mags. It's the only time I've ever done that. Way to go. You don't really need an end spot to be found. They picked your car because they liked it...not for where it was parked.
Brad54 makes a excellent point. The guy in the '55 was probably not even aware of doing anything wrong(he wasn't);sounds like petty BS to me.
Don't rain on this guys parade, take that hate somewhere else, I'm supporting the guy who's ride has a whole lot of soul. That's why the judges picked his ride and not the $$$ high roller. That's the way these big money guys operate, that's all they live for recognition and awards, when this guy J (one of our own) here built his to drive and enjoy. I promise you the guy in the 55 probably parked there for a reason, that's the way they operate, I've seen and dealt with these fools... Congrats J, you deserve it....
First of all congrats to you. That's got to be pretty cool to be recognized like that. And as it has been said already, that is a sweet little roadster! I'm not trying to be a smart *** and I am obviously naive when it comes to these things but I would like to learn. Other than being a ***** for almost parking in the street, what's the big deal? Was he blocking you from leaving?
"...I want to kick his teeth down his throat!...at this point I'm thinking what ***hole in the 55!" Again, I don't get the big damn deal. I guess maybe it's because when I go to a cruise-in or car show, I actually walk up and down the rows and look at all the cars, never thinking "Gee, I wonder if that guy here on the end, who made up his own parking space because there weren't any others left, did it just to punk the guy in the cool low-buck car?" Or "I think I'll just walk through the show and look at the cars on the ends of the isles, because it's too hard to see the other cars." You guys piss an moan about not being a hater, or about the high-dollar guys talking down about the primered cars, but you do the exact same thing when talking about their cars. When you went to the show in you're A, did you think "I'm going to get a trophy tonight"? If not, then why do you freakin' care that some guy parked on the end of the row next to you?! And, for the record, even though I own a pair of Tri-5s, I don't much care to look at most others. Your car is really cool, I'd have spent a good long time looking at it no matter what else was parked next to it. I'd shoot it for a feature story before a modern-built Tri-5, and I'd pick up a magazine and buy it if your car was in it. It's an attention-getter, has a great stance, the right parts, and a lot of character. I think the guy in the tri-5 probably just wanted to park in the lot with the rest of the hot rods. And not knowing him personally, even if his intent really was malicious, since I didn't see him or talk to him, I'll choose to give him the benefit of the doubt. You should too. Congrats on the jacket and the parade lap--well deserved. -Brad
Yup, happened to me there too a few years ago. I had a g***er style 41 Willys with a 301 and a four speed. I got the "look" award, and all the hi dolla Willys guys were pissed. A few of them even had the balls to say something to me about it. I told them to eat the corn out of my **** and go away. I got preferencial parking p***es for the Nat's as well and invited to cruise Pomona Drag Strip in the parade too. Congrats to ya
I have been blocked fromleaving before by ***holes, but if he wasn't blocking you, then whats the problem? I got to a local show pretty early since I wanted to run in and grab some dinner, and parked in a spot near the end, next to my friends. Go and eat and come back, and a greybeard with a hawaian shirt and beard has parked directly in front of me, and two other cars with his admittedly very nice 32 traditional looking roadster. While I am looking at his car, he comes over and talks to me telling me about its crate 350, brookville body, TH350, TCI frame, nice inch rear, VDO guages, etc. I asked him did he build it and he said "yep, took almost 6 months". He was bragging loudly to everyone about how he built the car. He opened the hood and on the firewall was a local shops plaque that actually built the car, next to the billet 350. I still liked the car and told him it was a very nice car. He asked me what I cam in and I told him, the primered fleetline, and he told me "That piece of ****? Can't afford anything better, I guess." Thats when I told him to eat ****, and that not only did I actually build my car and don't have to lie about it, but I didn't build it to make my **** feel bigger. He was really pissed and mouthed off to me when I got our little shows version of a peoples choice award.
Quite a few different views on parking in this thread. I can't help but wonder (again) what the older guys used to think of my primered roadster pulling in to park at the local "cruise"... when I still used to go. Most of them wouldn't even talk to me before the car was done but when I started driving it they wanted to always be my buddy. Weird. I do know of 2 seperate occasions when 2 owners moved their cars because people weren't looking at them enough compared to mine. (not my words, this is what I was told on both occasions by different people) One owner that moved his car was nice enough to tell me this and even joked about it. Not exactly a "cl***y" guy but he paid me the compliment none-the-less. I dunno... I have never been a "power parker" kinda guy but if the lot is full and everything seems cool, I don't have a problem pulling up on the side or in the gr***. I've done this 3 times and every time I have cleared the parking with the owner of the place as soon as I could. BUT... I have never thought to clear it with the guy that I just parked next to. Totally honest, I didn't think it would be a problem. In my mind, what's the big deal? Reading this today has changed my view. Granted, I have never blocked anyone in, and never will. But it seems pretty obvious that some people take this **** much more seriously than I do. So, if I have ever parked next to anyone here and screwed up their end spot, I'm sorry. It honestly never crossed my mind that it could be such a sore subject.
Dean, Welcome to the arm pit of the state. Did I tell you.. Sedalia ****s. The only good thing in Sedalia was Wheel Inn and Eddies.
Congrats! I agree, very deserving! I got to see it at antidonut and took quite a few pics of it! Well done indeed! This Bud's for you, right?! (oh man! That was bad)
Comes to tell that all the money in world can't buy style. That's something you have to have, you have to have an eye for what looks good on certain cars. You (even with red wheels lol) have built a sick little roadster, and it came to be noticed. I love a well thought out "bling rod" in all honesty (please forgive me, for I have sinned) but a well thought out traditional trumps the shiny paint and billet any day IMO.
Congrats on your accomplishment with your car, bet you never thought you'd be the focal point at that particular cruise. It seems we get rewarded the most when we least expect it. About parking, I attended the Baker's car cruise once last year in my traditional 34' Ford pickemup. Mind you this is the largest weekly car cruise in the country attracting more than 1000 cars at times. I parked in a "front row" parking spot because it just happened to be vacant and within an hour a brand new Ferrari parks next to me. The look on his face was priceless when everyone walked p***ed him to see a period hotrod. Within 10 minutes he gets pissed and leaves the cruise because his attention ***** ego wasn't fullfilled. I found it quite funny, to each its own I guess.
First off, nice hot rod and congrats. Just goes to show you can't buy cool. It's earned. The fact that you weren't expecting a prize makes your good time even sweeter. My T bucket, when it's done, will be the first time in a long time that I have had a car to go to a cruise night in. Is this the kind of **** I have to look forward to!? Who's getting the attention and who's not? I'm always surprised when I read or hear about a guy getting pissed that he didn't get a $5 trophy. When I was younger, just having something that got there on it's own power was enough. If someone pulled in with a trick set up, there were no ******* contests, just congrats and questions about how he did it. Life is too short to waste worrying if someone is going to like your car or not. ****, if I ever get to the point that I move my car to get praise, I'll just stay at home and show it to my family. Maybe I've been out of the car scene for a while, but it sure wasn't like this as far as I can remember. We used to bust our ***es to get our car ready to cruise and park at the hang outs with no thoughts of a prize or trophy or getting the spotlight. The reason I'll probably never make an event is because I don't want to be one of those guys sitting in a lawn chair hoping I get a chance to shoo away someone who might touch it.
Hotrodsufer, your right I did not even know they were giving out any kind of awards, I Just went to check what was going with the cruise because of wally parks death and hang out with my car.
