Hot Rods So how long does it take to make a dadgum frame?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 3wLarry, Sep 12, 2015.

  1. Better math -
30 mins per coat ? That's kinda super slow motion but ok.
So if it takes 30 mins get around the car, the point where you started had 30 mins to flash so there's no need to stop. Just go around again. Right.

If you need to start with 600 paper you've got mountainous type orange peel. Maybe because it took 30 mins to get 1 coat down? A guy who can shoot paint in a top notch booth usually doesn't need to sand shit. Speed clear and you can cut and buff it quick if it needs it.

You can tape on the base coat with fine line tape in just 20 mins. If its 2 tone, 3 tone, or 4 colors you aren't painting the whole car in any one of those colors so the trigger pulled time ought to be way quicker.

More hands make things go faster, long hours makes it done in less clicks off the calander. Having an expediting team to run interference for the craftsmen makes things go a lot quicker. "Here's the gun, clean it"

I don't know about the others, but for me, your avatar has hijacked my attention on many of threads. Keep up the good work!

I know, I know....I sti!l very rarely take pictures. I'm focused on getting the rails or the frame out the door to make room for the next thing. I see all these guys posting pictures of their work on Instagram and wonder how they get anything done. I'm the guy with his head down welding and nobody knows who I am. I like it that way. I really need to update my albums on here, but you can check out some of my work there. That's the best I can do.

I really just wanted to help give Larry a hard time.

I do have pictures of the vacation, though.

'27-'29 Chevy frame. Plentiful in your parts...5" vertical cross section; optional wheelbase, (when changing to Model A front crossmember) already has frame kickup in rear.
I have based 2 Model A's and a 'T' on these rails, just excellent platforms.
"Adjustable" to length/width; rails have a slight curve, less than a '32. Flat on top.

There's a Bay Area guy with a '27 Roadster Pickup on Chevy rails...Simplistic car looks like BUCK$.
Actually a very straight forward build, careful detailing. Paint, mostly.
But the millennia on here are inside the box on this type of thinking...

He's not gone, he just had to unplug the computer to plug in the welder so he could get some dadgum work done.
