I've had the luck and privilege of many fine objects. Enough so that some years ago I realized that none of us own history we are only the caretakers AND it's not about numbers but rather what you save and leave for the next guys to enjoy

(actually less since he didnt start at age one) I dont see anything there to be proud of. Seems kinda dumb to buy and sell cars that rapidly. Why would anyone want to spend their time and money churning cars? I have a friend that does that. He registers each car. Think of the cost! If you are selling cars for a profit, go far it, but is being a used car salesman something to bragg about? Keeping a car a long time has more appeal to me. Like Vic Edelbrock---still got his Model T hotrod. Had it more than 50 years! Wow! Thats something to be proud of. That 50 year old car dude is a piker compared to me. I have owned hundreds of cars and hundreds of motorcycles. Here is why it isn't dumb, for me at least. There are lots of wonderful vehicles around. I like 'em a lot. I get an itch for them real bad, just like most everybody here. So I buy a fair chunk of them over the last 45 years. When the itch is scratched good enough, I sell 'em so I can scratch another itch. And as far as owning them only a few months, folks as sick as me own too many at once. I have stuff I have owned over 30 years! Some stuff doesn't stick around long, a few are just to pass on to others. Sometimes I buy something just to get a piece or two off of it for a more deserving project, then it finds a new owner. Lots of times I have owned stuff I built up from scratch, just piling it up until it becomes a vehicle. If someone wants it more than me, they can buy it. If not, I start working on it. It's amazing how often someone gets it away from me before I'm done, but that's OK. There's always more stuff! Not everyone titles everything they own. That's costly. Insurance, taxes, tags, etc. Bummer. I used to repaint the old tags to the current years new colors. Never got caught, either. I still have a few of those tags around now. I also used to run undated Alaska tags, since I live by an army base. I don't bother to do that stuff anymore. Tons of cars dumb? Nah, not for everyone. Our mileages may vary, but just because some have owned more or less doesn't mean the other guy is wrong, he's just got another way of approaching it all. Enjoy what ya got!
Over 450. Lots of first gen Camaros (used to street race them a lot in the 70s-mid 80s. People get the feel for how fast i was, i'd sell out and build another. Average life expectancy was MAYBE 2 months. I took street racing real serious), over 60 older Vettes, shit loads of Elcaminos, 50s-60s GM sled/mild custom stuff, various Hot Rods, etc
Here goes, not including the foreign junk: 52 Stude, 4 or 5 57 Fords, 4 59 Fords, 51 Ford, 64 Falcon Sprint, 54 Ford convert., 2 67 Barracudas (one with 440), 56 Ford wagon, a flathead powered T roadster, 70 Challenger R/T (also with 440), 50 Ford Panel w/Olds 394, 35 Chev (only "Brand X" I've ever owned), 40 Ford coupe, 40 Fordor (still have it after 37 years), 31 A roadster with Cad power (present toy). 68 total since 1990 most of them 60's and 50's a couple 70-72, and then a few 20-30's... and always looking for the next one.
i've owned almost 50 so far and i'm only 24, most of them were parts cars and junkers but i still have the important ones 55-caddy , 63 impala , 78 malibu coupe, and my one ton chevys for work.
A buddy and I each made lists of cars we'd owned a couple of years ago. He'd owned almost 90 and I was in the low 200 car range then. We implimented a "2 butt rule", meaning that you had to have driven the car long enough to have smoked at least two cigs in it... A bunch of the cars I've owned were bought for VERY low money or were given to me. I patched those up, drove 'em a bit then sold them or parted a few out to fix a better one. Some eventually became circle burners. At least 60% of my cars would be considered collectible today, but were just beaters back in the '60-'70s. My oldest was a '50 Ford Fordoor, the newest is a '93 Crown Vic. In between were at least one or more Mustangs of every model built between '64 1/2-'73...I had a ton of '65-'68s, '60s T-Birds, a pile of '60-'64 Galaxies, '65-'66 Chevys and Gawd knows what else. Jan
I own about 40 at the moment, most of which are 1970 or older. I am up to probably 350 to 400 total vehicles owned, all but about 15 are in the last 4 years. I have averaged about 100 per year the last three years. But I guess I am cheating as I own my own car dealership. But, I work alone, no employees and work on them all myself, so I guess it is still a legal claim of ownership. and YES, I do still own my first car which will never be sold.

Wow. I don't feel so bad, now. It's apparent that for many of us, the part of the hobby we like is the building, and seeing ideas become reality. And it looks like at least one person seems to think that people ONLY get one car at a time, so have to sell one to get the next. I had over a hundred cars (not counting parts cars) by the time I was 35, but slowed down after I got married (though I think in the last 5 years, I've brought home over a dozen, and I just brought home a '61 Falcon moredoor this past weekend. That makes 6 cars in the driveway right now). Some have been with me a few weeks, some have been with me a few years, all at the same time. Maybe I shoudl thank God I can't hold a candle to some of you! hehehehehe!!!!! I've always been into cars in general, not one specific genre. I don't like to be limited or close myslef off to one small segment of the hobby, so the stuff I've owned has ranged from a shoebox to new stuf, and to cars from pretty much every major manufacturer worldwide. traditional british and itaian sports cars, early japanese GTs, domestic muscle, mini trucks, VWs, Porsches, etc. I love 'em all, and can have fun with any kind of car. The only junk is a car its owner neglects. Being closed minded is not a valuable goal to me, and there are vastly more cool cars out there than any one person can experience in a lifetime.
