It looks pretty good in the pics, but it AIN'T. All the importiant areas, like the A pillar to cowl area and the rocker and door jam area are fucked.

One last one. This is after an hour or so in my shop and a little love. Yea, my woman is smiling, but she is NOT impressed.

By the way, she is gonna be 1965 vintage. Straight axle, 10.5 M&H Racemasters on ET3's, full cage, BIG FUCKIN dual quad Pontiac w/ fenderwell headers, yada, yada, yada.

Many years ago when I lived in your area I helped with a A/G Blue Henry J........427 Ford side oiler.......and all the goodies. We ran at Walterboro Drag strip. In the 10's in the late 60's........not shabby for the time. B&J Speed Shop owned the car (Dorchester Rd......North Charleston).

Moved out of A/G into I/G.......300 cubic inch 6 cylinder Ford. Lots cheaper to run and easier to drive. Buddy Crosby wrecked it at Orangeburg SC dragstrip.Flipped it 2 or 3 times. Tore it all to pieces. About 1972 .........(RIP ........little Henry J)

  7. The only car I wish I never parted with was a Henry J. Nice score. They all rot out at the rockers, dont fret. Keep us posted on the build. T

Nice. The tape measure on the cowl means that you're serious.
We gotta song called Henry J.

  9. nice ,had one in the middle 80's , still miss but it was just plain evil on the track ,SCARY fooseball evil.do a search for Henry J and you'll come up with Harry Alexanders henry J page ,gasser madness has a few and I do on my site too-pics that is.

  10. This should cure the 'why am I so slow?' whining!!! Cool...I think you should call it 'Rust Kitty', too!!!

Cool man...the little lady will come to like it....trust me.I have been there.
Here's the fly when I brought her home.

  14. This is little brothers HJ at Famoso.
Running the 500" DRCE engine and just after the chop.

  15. Here it is beating up on a dragster.

    Note the aluminum rockers.
He had two, later three HJ's and all but one had rusted out rockers.
Cured by the simple expedient of rolling up a couple and putting in a few bends.

  16. Here's a shot of the interior.
A lot of the stuff you see was made by him.
He thinks things through and then knocks em out.

Some may think this is a high dollar car.
    It is and it isn't.
Totally un-sponsored and owner built with some help from friends and family.
I'm proud to say that a few of my parts are on it as well.

He's been dinking around with it for almost twenty years.
The first iteration had it running the stock HJ frame, six point roll bar setup, ladder bars, straight front axle, but not sitting up real high.
    It handled pretty well too.
More than a few guys were surprised to see a stock framed, stock width 9" rear end equipped with big slicks HJ go straight - for the most part - and not wander all over the track.
I think it did well because it wasn't overly high.

I drove it with the stock frame and it wanted to skate a bit in second gear, but it was no big deal.

It did do better with the Alston tube frame and narrowed 9" though. Both time-wise and handling-wise.

I drove it with the tube frame at both Terminal Island and Inyokern and other than getting a little sideways in high gear at Inyokern - once I got off the gas it straightened right out - it was no big deal.

It runs 8.13 @ 166 mph as it sits....

Damn bro, you are right about that 'Rusty Kitty' being a POS. It will serve its purpose of keeping yu in the garage for the next year or two as you wanted... I will dig thru my pic of Henry J for next weeks Hot Rod Lunch...

Now THAT is EXACTLY THE pic I was looking for. That is THE car that made me want to do this.

Oops. You snuck in some more pics whilst I was posting. The one that gives me the big wood is the black one. BUT- The rest are cool as hell too.

    Thanks, Bubba. -Abone.

Rocky. I SWEAR we always build the same stuff....I think next, I'll have to get a Chevvie van and stuff a small block in it.

By the way, what years did they make these? 49-53? What years had the cool "mustashe" (boy, I spelled that wrong) around the fromt of the hood and fenders like the black one?

PS. C9. Your brothers car is one bad mutha. -Abone.
