    I absolutely agree.

For the people who are saying its worth $500, imagine you were building a 62 vette. If you didnt have a set of doors, you would LOVE to find a set for only $500! Where are you even gonna look?! Theres lots of parts left here.

If you told me that this car just sold for 10k, I wouldnt be surprised at all. 62 vette projects arent exactly bounding in abundance. I dont want this thing, but if I someone told me I could buy it for $500 I would be ecstatic.

Let me say up front I would love to own the car but that is because my elevator does not go quite all the way up when it comes to 62 Vettes. Anyone that thinks this car can even be considered to be placed back to stock may want to check their meds. My candy red car earlier in the thread was a former drag racer out of New Mexico and spent from 64 to 78 as a drag racer when it was bought by the previous owner and then I bought it in 82 after virtually nothing had been done to it. It was rough but much of it was there although kind of tossed together to sell it. The gl*** was bruised and beat up and thin in several areas from improper use of stripper, so they can be brought back. My red car as long as I own it will have a drag racing theme and hopefully enough performance to raise my blood pressure a bit. The car in this thread though very likely has the wrong frame or an altered frame at the very least. It has no more dash, the windshield has been altered. The hardtop has been altered and the backwindow and moldings appear to be altered somewhat. The fibergl*** front end is suffering and would **** up a bit of gelcoat (or resin) at the very least just to make it salvagable. The doors most likely are empty and they are sporting polyester and for instance I just bought a 62 door in great shape with some of the innards missing for $200. The door handles are not worth anything, repos thru Corvette Central make them worthless. You could buy most of these parts new and put together a better car probably cheaper but in spite of that I still think the car would be great and would love to own it and it has nothing to do with what the ***emblage of parts are but the life it led. When it comes to g***ers and Vette g***ers in particular, they bring back some of the best memories of my life.

$10,000 would surprise me but there may be people out there sicker than I am. We'll see-Jim

I don't have a comment on the cars value. I have seen a few posts on the HAMB about a stolen car and all the post to follow about beating thieves into the dirt. I've seen no less then 4 post saying to buy the car and then sell the ***le with the VIN tag and make the car into a racer or part out the rest. What do you think somebody will do with the ***le and VIN tag? Go out and steal a car and use this paper work on it, I'm sure there are other uses but that's the most likely thing that will happen.

The engine was built by Larry Teter out of Elgin Il back in the early 70's and was driven by Lou Price from Elgin also. It raced mostly at Byron dragway in Byron Il. I am Larry's daughter Terri, if you need more info I will see what I can come up with.

Terry any info would be great. Just an update on the car I did buy it and the freind that helped me drag it out of the back 40 fell in love with it and had to have it so we made a deal. It now shares a garage with a 57 chevy g***er(built in the 60's) and also a 62 altered wheelbase 409 impala. It seems very happy there and will someday be back to the way it was intended. I did find a guy who remembered the car and thinks that he may have some 8mm film of it. If anyone has any info on the car drop me a line and I will p*** on the info.

Great news and even better that it will be most likely be put back to the way it ran back in the day. Although this particular car was changed quite a bit from the way the General originally built it, and would not be a good candidate for a restoration, I still hate to see so many of the Corvette solid axle racers ruined by guys that insist on taking them back to stock, a concept that I for one cannot understand-Jim

Out of curiosity, how much did you end up getting it for.

Also great you have a contact for the history.

As always keep us updated, rarely se a Corvette G***er due to their value

    Thanks, Bruno...

  11. Great find, but could be a real money pit for ya.

1-Figure what it's worth to you finished.
2-What's it gonna cost to get it finished?
3-Compare those two, and come up with a fair offer(if there even is one)

For instance, if the car may be worth $30,000 as an old race car, and it costs you about $40,000 and 3 years of your time, it's not worth doing. I find that many cars in that state of disrepair won't be worth the money it costs to restore. And, if you mechanically restored it as suggested, leaving the cosmetics as-is? You'd have one horrible mess. IMO

Bruno I wish the 409 impala was in my garage but a friend of mine ownes the vette(which he bought from me) and also the altered wheelbase 09. When he got the altered it had factory from suspension with ball joint spacers and tall springs but he has since put a straight axle under it. I never understood the car they spent the time to move the rear axle forward but never put a straight axle under the front. I know the impala sat in a field up near the IL WI border for many years. It could be the same car I have not seen to many 62 altereds.

Sorry didn't get back sooner, I'm not on the sight much. Larry Teter who built the car is no longer with us. I don't know if Lou Price the driver is still in the Elgin Il area. I do know he married a gal named Mary Meadows and her family has a business in Hampshire Il called WR Meadows. She may be able to get you in contact with Lou for more info on the car. Good luck

I guess it is a sign of how things are now, but I've seen a number of vettes of this vintage and in similar condition - although without being race modified - selling for $5000 or more. Even in its thrashed condition, the owner is probably going to want a crazy amount of money for it. You know the axiom: it is only worth what someone will pay, right? Check out what's happened with old Harley parts - or nearer and dearer to most of our hearts - model A bodies. Sorry if I'm preaching to the choir, here.

Best of luck - great find!

  15. So how much was the thing, all this time, you got it and no $$ info? C'mon stop screwin with us!!

  16. Interesting post on a local car. I don't know what it's worth, Vettes are Vettes. I would love to find out who lettered it. I'll cosult with Grandmaster Race Car Letterer, Pat Finley. He's quite the historian and lettered all the Oswego cars in the '60's and '70's.

As said earlier, some of you guys saying 500 to 1000 bucks are obviously not very familiar with old vettes.

There are probably 4 or 5 *PARTS* on that car that would bring that kind of money.

About 10 or 15 years ago I repossessed a 72 vette for one of the finance companies I worked for. It was all there, but it hadn't run in years & think the engine was seized. Sold it to my ex's dad (I was seriously in love with this girl, and gave her dad the major insider deal - $2500). He's a vette guy, has 2 late 60's / early 70's big block convertables. I talked to him about 6 months later & asked him about the car, and he advised me that he'd chopped it and sold the parts at some big yearly corvette show up north, that he'd NETTED 10 grand, and still had some stuff left over. Apparently those guys aren't just wierd about year correctness on parts, they're into MONTH correctness. They walk around with their little books with all the month & year codes so all the stuff they get is EXACTLY correct.

soooooooooo are you buying it or what!?!?

  20. Some guys on this board wouldn't pay more than $500 or $1000 unless the car was perfect mint brand new condition - and then they'd go $1500. It doesn't even matter what the car is - Corvette, Nomad, '51 Merc coupe, '32 Ford, Duesenberg, whatever. And lord help you if there's a rust bubble or parking lot ding - that car is unrestorable junk.

I looked at the pictures and figured $5000.00 would be a good deal without any research into what early 'vettes are selling for. By the end of the thread, several agreed with that. I mean.. $500.00 for any '75 or older Corvette with clear paperwork? If it's a joke, 'tain't funny McGee. If you're serious, put the crack pipe down already. It ain't a '62 Bel Air 4dr sedan.

Anyways, it's good to hear someone bought it - they must have paid a realistic price for it - and is going to restore it.

Which in case latecomers to the thread missed it, he bought it, then sold it to the friend who helped him pick it up.

Yes I did buy the car and I did sell it to a friend. I really do not see any reason to say what it was sold for because I got a screaming deal when I bought it and p***ed the deal onto my friend. Thanks for all the interest in the vette and it found a good home if I did not feel confident in it's new home it would not have gone there and I also would have got alot more $$$ for it. And for all the people who said the car was worth $500 put some more crack in your pipe and smoke yourself retarded.

because you're a douchebag. You get all this help and then give everybody the finger. Maybe you could pony up $50 of your profit to get an Alliance membership? Nah, you're a taker. Good riddance.

No, you don't have to tell us what you gave for it. And no, you don't ask for 'advise' and then shove your hang-nailed thumb up the **** of those who 'helped' !

You are in a bit of a etiquette bind because of your original post. I'm sympathetic to you not wanting to reveal the price, but because you ****ed everyone in and actively sought out price recommendations, you should at least give us a range. It's especially bad, cause "what's it worth?" posts are generally frowned upon but this one got a lot of traction.

Did you take any more pictures of the car you could share with us, or is this whole story BS? You got a picture of it on your trailer or at your Friends house? Why not tell the price if you got a screaming deal and p***ed it on to your Friend. Why not say what you sold it to your Friend for at least.
It's pretty ****ty to make a guy read a 6 page post and not give any more info after you've got what you needed. Sort of like ripping the last chapter out of a 600 page book.
    Dill hole.

    Exactly.

**** this idiot. "How much is this worth guys? Thanx for the time, I made a buck off it, now you people can go to hell" Real nice.

  28. When you ask people what something is worth . . . you're going to the Fortune Teller. Keep the answers you like and throw the rest out.

You surely didn't need to insult everybody who was trying to help you - that is definitely not cool. Guess how much help you'll get the next time you ask? Maybe you've used your own crack pipe a bit much . . . your at***ude seems to show it. What a waste of our time . . .

A grown man pouty about an internet forum. Who's lame now?

I suppose you didn't have a problem with the HAMB when you asked a bunch of questions about your 32, or for Alliance discounts during the build, or bumped its ad for $28k in the for sale section back to the top yesterday. Just sayin... ;)
