So i have been a tad under the weather for the past week (respiratory infection) but decided to go to work anyways last night. I leave early (9pm) and get almost halfway home when i notice the cherries behind me. Im on the interstate 10 miles from my exit. 2 officers walk up and i ask what i did wrong. My gps says i was only running 64 mph. He says i didnt do anything, him and a fellow officer have a bet as to what drivetrain is in my car. Apperantly they see me every morning around 3:30 am as im heading home. I tell him its all original, six popper with 3 on the tree. The other officer starts laughing...turns out he won 20 bux! I opened the hood and they got a kick out of a 29 year old driving an old car like this. I offered to let him take it for a spin, he says since hes on duty he cant. I tell him apperantly he knows who i am and where i live, come by any time. I got a kick out of it, made a crappy night into a pretty fun night. This ever happen to anybody else on here?
yep.. got stopped by a state trooper for similar reason, he was bored and wanted to talk cars for a while.
LMAO, I, having spent many years as a Police Officer i can say yes, I have done what they did more than once. Since i have always been a "gearhead" anytime i saw a cool ride i would find a reason to meet the owner and check it out. There are lots of cops out there who like classic cars and enjoy them as much as anyone else.
Yea - 15 years ago. I had a 468 - 6-71 Blown - 9.90 in the 1/4 - street driven 66 Corvette coupe that was in Hot Rod Magazine. Cop pulls me over on a Friday night wondering if I could see ahead of me with that "scoop thing" sticking out of the hood and what the that hump and scoop thing was all about, so I educated him. He didn't do anything as far as a ticket because I wasn't doing anything wrong. I knew of him and that he lived in my old neighborhood three houses down from where I use to live. The next night, I stopped by the old hood, he was there and I took him for a ride. He now knows what power blown engines produce, and I scared him shitless. It was fun educating him and the guy was hanging on. Cob
O/T...but alooong loong time ago i went through a lowrider phase and built a 64 impala that would three-wheel just sitting still... anyways,, back then there was this local cruise spot were all us young people(at the time) would hang out,.,i pulled outta there and onto the main drag and after dragging the bumper and letting the sparks fly...i hit that three wheel all the way down the blvd...then the lights came on and i was like..."oh shit!"......i pulled over and he told me he had never seen anything like that and just wanted to make sure something wasnt wrong..hhahaha
I got pulled over by a guy I was friends with in HS and had lost touch with. He knew I had my non-hamb car and when he saw me go through his town at 3am he stopped me. We stood on the side of the road for like 45 minutes catching up and laughing. Lights flashing the whole time.
I got pulled over on the Mass. Pike once "because I have flames on my car". The LEO just wanted a better look at the car. Oy!
Yep! Got pulled over by a young Dearborn cop... I had just bought a new '88 black o/t Ford Fox car and he just wanted to check it out... He said he was gonna buy one for his better half... After chewing the rag for about 20 minutes, he said thanks and have a nice day! I thought that was cool...
wonder what would happen if they pulled you over for no legal reason and you had 50 lbs of heroin in the car.
Can't say I have ever had one of those "friendly" stops. But at least I haven't had very many un-friendly stops either.
I got pulled over about 3 years ago by a town cop, the only reason he pulled me over was to see if my 1971 Mach 1 mustang was a real 429 car and I told him yes, open the hood and let him look, we B.S. about fords and mustangs for about 15 mins and away he went. Thought it was pretty cool.
One day I got followed by a city cop all the way through town, the whole time trying to figure out why I was being followed. After awhile I just pulled over to see what was up. The cop never did turn on the lights. It turns out that he just wanted to look at the car. I eventually sold it to him but that is a whole 'nuther story.
...no shit,,i thought the same thing after i posted that,,,one 'GOOD' time getting pulled over doesnt make up for all the other "BS" times...
Kennedy & I got pulled over in Poteet's Bones-built 5wd not long ago. When the lights came on Kennedy asked "Wonder why he's pulling us over?" Let's see: Low top Low lights Cali tag on TN roads Uncorked pipes No seatbelts No brake lights No turn signals No bumpers No proof of insurance ....& we were speeding. The THP officer wasn't a car guy though. I think that saved us - he said wouldn't even know where to start writing the ticket. He sent us home with the promise to haul us and the car in if he saw us on the road again. Our only regret - George wasn't there to see it all go down. He would have laughed his ass off at us.
Yea has happened a few times. The first time it happened I was in a O/t dodge pu with a badass paint job on it(I bumped my head when I was younger and was into the truckin/ minitruck scene). I had about a half case of brew in the truck and I was only 17 so yea I was alittle nervous. But turned out he just wanted to talk about the truck lol. Better story is when I was in my falcon and cop pulled in the lot where we was all at. He started talkin cars for awhile then left. Well we all loaded up and started down the road and I pulled right next to the cop at a redlight and he started revin his engine. When the light turned we had a little late night acceleration contest lol. I talked about that for months lol. racing a cop while he was in his cruiser.
Just tell those guys to remember you fondly and look the other way the next time you get tired of being respectable and light the tires from a stoplight or something..
In the winter of '75, my roomate and I are heading home to Napa from St.Helena in his '69 Boss 302- I'm driving, as he used to like to get himself into a good "got the munchies" state and then have me take him for a ride So we head over from Hwy 29 to Silverado Trail on Zinfandel Ln about 2:30AM, take off south on the Trail- and since I had just run the valce 7 such on the Boss, let it eat, 7K, 7K, 7K...and crested the hill with the speedo "past it's mechanical limits". Coasted down to about 60, and got all the way to Yountville before the deputy that was hiding in the trees at Zinfandel caught up to us and hit the lights So I get out thinking I'm had, and Mr Munchies was hitting paranoid OD (remember, it was '75). Deputy starts chuckling and says "Hey I wanted to let you know this is a really bad time to be driving fast as the bars just let out, and really, I just wanted to look at the car-sucker went up the hill pretty good." So now we're chewing the fat behind the car about cars, but Muncho doesn't know that, he's just about cruising into cardiac arrest by now Got back in and drove away without a word, and it took about a mile before he yelled "WHAT???"
Pulled over last year by CHP just wants to look at the truck. Thought it was nice and want to know all about it. He was a MOPAR guy.
Yep. I built plenty of street cars with radical engines that left the police wondering. It seems they thought it was more fun to pull me over to see what was under the hood than stop by our shop >>>>.
Hahaha that cracked me up - that's a pretty good question tho... That'd make for a very long night I bet. On a side note it seems like every time I get pulled over they always ask if I have upgraded brakes, next time I'll ask why.
Watch the movie "Electraglide in Blue", with Robert Blake in it. It's a shocker and will make ya think everytime a cop pulls ya over!!!!
I have been stoped by the Illinois State Police as well as local police just to look at my T Buckets . That was 20 + years ago .
My buddy and I were in his 30 A pick up, 744 set up. We were cruising back form Salinas he lives in Greenfield about 30 miles to the south we were probably doing about 70 or so in a 65 on 101. CHP comes up pulls us over. He just wanted to bs about the pick up. He asked about the brakes being upgraded, yup their 40 Ford my buddy says, how about the steering, yup thats 48 Ford. He didn't know what to say, it was pretty cool. My good friend is a commercial cop in the area and he tents to pull me over every know and then to see whats going on. He never has any doughnuts though, some good cop he is!
Pretty common for me now that I am older, when I was your age they still wanted to stop me for suspicion and other related reasons. Glad you had a good time.
Yep... Just got done thrashing on it at 3 a.m. Cadillac Kid got in it and managed to get pulled over at 3:02 a.m.... No plates... No Exhaust... Speeding... No Insurance... I wondered why he didn't get back after a few minutes so I headed out and followed the flashing lights only to find the car off the side of the road with 2 squads with spotlights pointing into the car. The Kid was shitting bricks and I was laughing my ass off and asking the officer if he could have him slammed up against the car with a gun to his head for some photo's and the cop refused. Then asked if we were drinking...? We said no but that we were tired from building this car... and told him that we were shipping the car out later that morning and that he'll never see it again! So he asked us to put it on a trailer and get it out of here and that he'll let us go! We complied! <iframe width="420" height="345" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/GznND-aK8UM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I was driving home through Kingman, AZ with a 68 Mustang Fastback I just bought in Reno and was pulled over. The cop asked to see my paper work since I didn't have a license plate on the car. After he saw everything was in order we talked about a half an hour about cars. Another time in I was getting gas in Winslow, AZ. I had my 71 Challenger I had just bought in Las Vegas on the trailer when a cop pulled behind me and wanted to check out the car and chat. Must be boring to be a cop in AZ.
Back in the 70's I was driving my Baja Bug in Palos Verdes and got pulled over, they just wanted to photograph the car so they could use it to test cops in training. The car was perfectly legal, but it was a real test to see why apparently.
My buddy Cantrell got what has to be the slowest speeding ticket ever for a genuine 427 Cobra- 40 in a 35, right in front of the Napa Ford dealership in '76. It was the middle of Saturday afternoon, and the dealership salesmen loved it, as the cop started getting interested in the car, pretty soon the hood was open and it was a genny Guardsman Blue SC with a medium riser, turkey pan, all the goodies, and a pretty good crowd started to gather and mill around. Cop ended up really liking the car, but my bud still got the ticket, as he had already started writing it before he got interested Good thing they didn't catch us in the middle of the night in the GT40- no plates, open megaphone exhaust, and LeMans gearing- 70 in first, 120 in second, and we were well into fourth..
