Even if you went 200 you would not make the club because of car.

thanks dan, can you explain a little more about what you said. i dont understand why a car like that would not be excepted just because of the body style, i dont want to build a roadster or severly chopped model A. is it the wheel base or the modifications. Just the start of my questions. cory and yes im planning on getting the book.

I heard to become a member of the 200mph club you actually had to break the record of the cl*** you are in while going at least 200. Is this true, or is just a matter of going 200mph?

    yes.

you first must break the standing record MPH, then defend your own run again. the average of the two runs MUST be greater than the previous record in the cl*** in order to get the hat

I to have been bitten by the bug. Went to speed week in 2006 after many years of saying , "I'll get there next year." Came home and started a 32 roadster with a squeek bell prepared ch***is, motor dynoed at 650hp, champ quick change, etc. Looking for the magical 200 mph. Cant wait till its done and we get to give it a go.

I got to see my dad and Ted crack 200 last summer, and personally touch 183. Every run was a thrill. Still the best one was the maiden "fresh from the build" run at 158 back in 2002. That first run was the most important milestone. Kinda like the first run around the block, 'cept this truck had never run around the block.

You could run in the Cl***ic Altered cl***,the wording in the rulebook says this in reference to body mods 'unaltered in height, width, length or contour' Then in another paragraph it says 'Pre-49 bodies may be chopped'
Gas coupes and sedans pre 49 are allowed a 3inch beauty chop.
Anyway when you get your rulebooks thats right buy three of them,1 for the house ,one for the shop and one for the daily driver.....you'll be able to clarify what you need to do.Build the car to fit a specific cl*** in the rulebook and stick with it.
    Hope this helps:D

Its amazing that people dont even realize this. Everyone thinks that if you hit two bills you get the hat. Which is NOT right. You have to break records to get the hat. So you cant just go 200, you have to cl*** yourself by simply outcl***ing others. Thats why you see bellytankers with little flat fours in them and stuff.
You also must know what everyone else has in the works too. And by this I mean if you plan on beating, say a 214.000 mph in your specific cl***, and you want to accomplish this in say 2010, dont expect to beat that with a 214.500. You have to realize that every year someone is chasing that damn red hat.

On a lighter note I will be there watching and offer my house as a pit stop when near Bonneville, for the Good Luck 30oz Steak. Its just a 30 oz steak I provide for all who are going after that red hat.

Go for it. It can be done.

Join the SCTA, and get a rule book.

Thanks fellas, sounds like im gonna be getting a rule book but you answered my questions about the cl***es. i just really fell in love with line of that car and thought it would be a joy to build. i dont even know how important the red hat is to me at this point, maybe that will grow on me, im not looking for recognition or to build a name for myself just a fun reachable goal to give me a desire to grow in hotrodding, and create a bad *** car on the way. cory

I don't believe there are any cl***es that allow a sectioned body BUT I think you can run for time only. The down side is you will never get a record running for time only and your car will be worth less because it is of no value to anyone but you because it cannot compete it a specific cl***. With that said it is also what I intend to do. LSR guys please correct me if I'm wrong.

Let me expand a little. All the coupe and sedan cl***es, from Compe***ion Coupe to Production require that the body be stock from the firewall back. There are allowances made to the front body work as you step up in cl***.

You cannot section or narrow the body. Brickster mentioned Time Only. This is a place to run if your car does not fit into th cl*** structure. Downside?, you pay the same fees and cost of building a vehicle without the rewards of a record or points, if running at El Mirage. The car must meet all of the safety requirements of a legal cl*** entry. Not something that interests me personally.

I can also reply to the 2 club requirements. To gain entry in the club you must exceed the current cl*** record by a minimum of .001 MPH with your two run average. There are some cl***es that have a CLUB minimum speed that is in excess of the existing SCTA-BNI record. most of these minimums are in cl***es that have no current record, listed as open in the rulebook. These minumums are pretty accurate. There are some records that are less than 3 MPH off the minumum, some even closer. I made the club with a two run average of .851 MPH over the minumum. On my drive to the hat I broke the BNI cl*** record twice, but too slow for the club.

If I'm not mistaken, that car that Aman posted pics of was built and run by the guys at Alamo Hot Rod Parts in San Antonio - Gordon is the owner and he helped me get my A frame a little over a year ago. When I went down to pick it up, his buddies Tom and this other guy who I swear introduced himself as "Happy" were working on that car. These guys were the nicest guys I'd ever met and we shot the **** for about 2 hours as we looked over the car. Tom used to work on Formula 1 cars and really knew his stuff... great stories and great people. The funny thing was, they had some other guy drive the car (I guess his name was Lawrence) - I think 250+ was a bit much for them!

Cory - when you come down for the Round-up, we could make a run down there to Alamo and see if they'll let you check out the car and tell you how they went about doing it... I know it's not the same cl*** that you'd want to run in but it would be cool regardless.

  16. Best of luck and I hope you do it. It is one of my life goals too, 200+mph across the salt is heaven.
I was lucky enough to get a ride with a Royal New Zealand Air force jet jockey when I was in the Army, gave him a tandem parachute ride, he gave me a ride in his A4 Skyhawk in return. We briefly broke the sound barrier, now that was cool. Just imagine Andy Green doing that in Thrust SSC along the ground!
He to was a parachutist and I was Lucky enough to jump with him at the Aust Army parachute nationals. Very down to earth guy for a jet jockey and the fastest man to cross the surface of the earth!
