So I'm going to build a "Rudy Truck"

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Richard D, Sep 30, 2007.

  1. wood flat bed fatties and wires like this late 70's early 80's [IMG]

  2. Same cab as mine, and same type bed I'm kicking around in my head, but mine will be a little shorter. I will also trim the bottom 2 or 3 inches off the rocker panel, just leave enough to channel the frame.

    Dont make a "Rudy Truck"!!!!!

Make a "Richard Truck" for crying out loud!!!

You can take influences from others, which it sounds like what you are doing. Dont know Rudy but Id bet he didnt build his to have others copy....he just built his truck.

I am building a 36 and when I am finished I am sure some will compare it to his too...its hard not too.

  4. I hear ya, I only called it that because when you say "Rudy truck" most know what you mean(post '35 with no fenders). It will by no means be a copy of his truck.

Sounds like a cool project (no matter what others think). I have an old Dodge cab of the same vintage that I've been wanting to do very similar. Well, look proportionate and make babies cry. :D Be sure to keep us updated and with pictures. I need some inspiration. :D

..that is the thing,,,taking a 1940's cab(wide) and setting it on a frame somewhat designed for a 1930's car(narrow),,,very hard to do as far as proportions,,,,

..it's like putting a 10 gallon cowbow hat on your 80 year old grandmother,,,yeah,,she'll probably let you put it on her,,but it wont look right:D hahahha

Haha, yeah I hear exactly where you are coming from. It can be done, but it takes a good eye to see the parts come together.

Hmm...my Grampa's name was "Rudy". And come to think of it...he DID have a truck!! It was a Pinto wagon, that was brush painted white, and had the wagon part cutaway to make a pickup so he could haul coal... :)

Yeah, that would be awesome, but it doesn't happen here. Ever. Those cars have rusted away out here. BUT, honestly, even with the extra $1000 or so for gas, driving out there to get one still makes it a bargain if you really want one. Our Craigslist only has 24" rims and broken lawnmowers. We HAVE to use the-bay whether we like it or not.

One other thing, I don't think anyone starts out to build a "Rudy truck". Well, maybe some do. I don't know the guy, had never heard of him when I started building my truck. I had a worthless truck that I was stuck with. I saw 1 truck done this way. Wasn't even Rudy's, and figured that would be the only way to get it back on the road. It's either this or take it to the scrap yard. I hate throwing away old parts. I can't even give this stuff away, everyone around here just wants to build 5.0 Mustangs.

  12. Can't even find parts in the junkyard for my 20 year old driver down here in the rusty Gulf of Mexico...I got that cab for $25 and another $50 to have it delivered. The frame is already built and can be made to work easily, why not put them to good use? If it doesn't work out, somebody will buy it...

    lol

You guys might fuck with Richard because he has a high post count but when you get to know him it's really not surprising.

This dude is everywhere and all over the place at one time. I have no idea how he can keep up with his comings and goings. Works way the hell up here and lives way the hell down there so that's hours out of every day. Still he has time to collect and then work on all these different projects.

    Good guy. He's a nut.

...but he still won't have anything for the Roundup unless he put's that beer down and starts working with two hands...

    :D

He is not going to put the beer down so we all just need to get over it. As for the high post count he does that shit at work when he is supposed to be working.:D But you are correct he will not have anything ready for the Roundup!:D :D

  15. Fuck you Louie! You need to help me finish, or I'll steal Ashley's 'Vette and drive that.
I have been a little sidetracked getting my garage in order, new lighting, new A/C, and fixing this old lathe so I can make the parts to finish some of this shit.

Quit picking on Richard D. he's cool so give him a break. Richard, I still have that 52 F1 with the original flatty for sale/trade. Let me know if I can help you out. I say go for it, like Littleman said on that show, "let your imagination run wide", or something like that. Anyway, stay in touch. I plan on having my A done in time for the Round Up (again), and hope to see you there. Aman.

  19. Thanks Aman, these guys were about to make me cry.:( Thanks for the offer of the flatty, but I've got a line on a 394 Rocket, but I will probably go with the old standby, belly button SBC. This will be a driver, with a vintage under-dash A/C and old fashoned compressor mounted down low near the framerail, so I need something reliable, cheap, and easy to find parts for. Maybe Mopar power? Unclee has a 440/TorqueFlite...

    That things awesome
    this thing is not.

But if we have all learned something its that the second one will get way more attention at a show. also for some damn reason someone will pay more money for the second one too. some people seem to love piles of shit when they have money to spend and no brains in their head.

first off, it comes down to taste. the model a and 33/34 are really cool trucks but by no mean should the 35 & 36 be shunned, they make a very cool bobber truck that actually sports more cab room then it's predecessors. plus the cab looks sick.

id say so because i have a 35 in the works. and although rudy's truck (i discovered it as potchie's in winnemucca, was my initial spark to build that year and stance but no means the actual components.

Usually people who build fucked up shit are duesh's who stay by their POS all day and do lame shit that draws a crowd. Usually people who build cool shit are cool people who go mingle and don't make assbags of themselves, thus not attracting the big crowds of duesh watchers.
That being said, Richard, I don't really care what your gonna do. Just show me what you have done. And make it cool, nomatter what it is.

  29. I am a little leery posting this here, but what the Hell. Doesn't really fit with our format, but a few may be curious. I have plenty of room for a radiator now, and the grill can still come up an inch or so to be level with the cowl. I plan to extend the firewall and hide the framerails "Z", I'll roll some beads in it to match. And trim several inches off the 8" tall rocker panel. I have a longer bed for it too. May not look too shabby with a coat of paint, and some aluminum slots. We'll see.

  30. ya should also toss a space truck bed on it say 61 ford
